1.
Another summer day wasted. Lucas hadn't left his house all summer except to go to the gym and the library. Occasionally he went to church but noticed it was pointless by the end of July.
Not that religion wasn't important, it was just that he wasn't really religious. He knew he believed in God and Jesus and The Holy Spirit. But he had never read the bible, barely listened in church unless it was to stand and sit. He prayed a couple times a week not every day like Christians says he should.
Today he was going to church, hoping that today will be one of the days that a young pastor in their twenties guest preaches today.
His church was a different kind of church. They always had preachers of different races and languages come and preach while one of the churches servants translates for everyone else. I guess that's what happens when a church has a whole bunch of races in one room.
But today Lucas wanted to hear something uplifting instead of the anti-gay, anti-slut and anti-sex before marriage preaches.
Slacks were not Lucas's favorite. He hated slacks cause of the way that they rised when he sat down revealing the dress socks he likes to call "Grandpa Socks" since he remember before his gramps died that he wore those types all the time. So he usually wears fancy pants with nice fabric or just dark jeans. He had a pair of black pants he ordered off of JackThreads folded on his desk.
He put the pants on leaving them unbuckled and unzipped. He took a white tank top from the top draw of his dresser and put it on. Now the real problem was to find out what color shirt to wear, Blue or Tan.
He finally chose the tan shirt. He slipped it on, buttoned it, and tucked it in his pants and then zipped and buttoned the pants. Securing the waist with a thick black leather belt. He took a cardigan from his closet and put that on top of the tan shirt. It matched well with the pants and the shirt adjusting himself so that he looks good and polished.
He skipped two weeks of church so he had to look good when going back.
He looked into the mirror after putting on black grandpa socks and black dress shoes. And he thought he looked good for once in a long time. He stared right at himself in his blue eyes. His eyes were his favorite part of his body after his skin and abs. He just stared.
He turned up the music he was playing so he could hear it in his bathroom. His 'Dance Mix' was on. He liked house and dance music cause they were long songs and remixes of regular songs all cross fading into each other, it was peaceful for him to listen to. Other people would have hated how long the songs were but he was part of the many thousands that loved it.
Now he's ready after grooming his face. He runs downstairs where everyone is waiting for him. His sister's boyfriend was tagging along so they all had to go to church and had to go early.
He didn't hate his future bro-in-law but its not like he cared enough to even get to know the guy. He didn't really socialize with older people- actually not at all with anyone.
Lucas really hated to go to church early because of Sunday School and Sunday School sucked. He never even learned anything and if he even did, all he remembers is the heavy-weighted awkwardness in the room. It was always awkward and there are a lot of kids from school that don't really talk to each other unless they are told to. No one says anything unless they are asked about their weekend.
Church was also five hours which was torture to Lucaas.
Lucas ends up spending those five hours daydreaming about fame. A famous actor to be exact. Lucas loved to act and sing. Acting and singing gave him confidence to just be himself and he felt at home on the stage. Acting in every school play and singing at every talent from elementary to now, so he knows what he's doing. He daydreams being on TV show and in Movies where, of course, he is the lead. He also daydreams about finding love but he doesn't know what that feels like so it ends short.
The car pulls up to the large palace like church. And the long day of daydreaming begins.
When Lucas arrives home, he doesn't even bother to think about church. He just takes off his clothes with nothing but boxers and shorts on. It's gotten hot since earlier in the morning so he turns on the air conditioner near his bed.
Lucas has three windows in his room. There is a window that looks into the backyard straight across from the entrance to his room. That window is the one with the AC, near his full size bed. There are two windows on the two sides of his room, one on the left side and directly across that is the one on the right side. The window on the right looks into his ex-best-friend's , Eiric, room. The window on the left looks into a room that is in a vacant house.
He walks to the left window noticing boxes in the room. Maybe someone finally bought that house, he thinks to himself.
He turns the air conditioner on fan cause it's gotten freezing and he only has shorts on. Going back to the window, he sees someone. He opens the window and leans out to get a better look. Hoping that whoever it was would sense him staring, the person turned around. Lucaas waves so the person can come over to talk.
The boy looked around fifteen or sixteen. He also looked like he could be Hispanic. He had hazel eyes that Lucas could see from where he was. The boy opened his window flashing a small smile.
"Hey, I'm Angel Gonzalez. I just moved here from Chicago," the boy had a small Spanish accent which proved Lucaas's observation.
"HI Angel, I'm Lucas Peterson. I lived here my whole life," they both laugh.
"That's cool. You should really show me around sometime and we can probably hang," the boy was nice plus Lucas only ever had one friend, "but I have to finish setting up my room. So it'll be a while before I actually get out."
"I can help you fix it up'" Lucas says without obviously thinking. Lucaas had nothing to do and he was kind of desperate for a friend.
"Really"
"Yeah, I have nothing to do anyways," he says while putting a dark gray v-necked tee.
"Alright the front door is unlocked."
Lucas changes form his basketball shorts to some casual green Polo shorts. He put on his grey moccasins.
In the kitchen he tells his mom he is going to help the new neighbors out for a while.
"Be back in time for dinner," she says.
Lucas's dad is pulling out of the driveway. "Where you going?" he asks.
To help the new neighbors out for a little bit, I'll be back for dinner though," he says walking up to the driver's window seat.
"I will be back by then too. Alright?"
"Yeah. Love you," Lucas says while crossing into Angel's yard.
Lucas sees Angel's mom and maybe his brother. He walks over to them and greets himself. Turns out that's his mother and his brother. Their father went missing before their mom got promoted to here.
"You can head right up, he did mention something about a Lucaas coming over to help out a little," she says delightedly.
Lucaas is going to the room where Angel was. Who knew this house was so nice, he thought.
When he got to Angel's room he noticed all the labeled boxes. Most of the boxes were empty. His clothes were neatly folded on his bed. He hadn't installed the draws into the dresser yet.
"Oh, hey. All you have to do is install the draws into the dresser and help me set this big computer system here," Angel points at a box with a computer with a wide flat screen monitor, small little speakers that are meant to be setup around the room to make a surround sound effect with whatever comes out the computer.
"Alright, I'll start with the dresser," Lucas starts grabbing the draws and installing them into the dresser. He does this pretty quickly. So he starts putting the clothes in.
He looks at Angel to notice that Angel's putting a wall of cardboard bags on the wall. Lucaas recognizes this technique from anywhere because he did the same thing with the bags he got from shopping.
"You do that with your bags too?" Lucas says excitedly.
"Hell yeah. I am almost a style freak which is weird for a guy but I cant help to want to look good. You should show me your collection sometime," Angel replies.
"Of course. I wasn't into fashion before 8th grade when I met this girl and she just insisted that someone as good-looking as me should care about how they look and soon enough I became a fashion freak," Lucaas says making them both laugh.
They talk for a while about fashion and soon to music and videogames. They even set up the computer and organized Angel's closet. They exchanged numbers but they really didn't need to since they could just talk through the window.
Lucas was late for dinner by five minutes. And when he got home, his parents were furious. Not only that but they had a guest which happened to be his sister's boyfriend and his parents.
"Lucas. You're late," his father said angrily. Lucaas took a seat next to his younger brother Anthony(Tony).
"I know and I'm sorry."
"Luckily you aren't that late and we can pray," his mother said before Lucas and his father started to argue.
Lucas didn't enjoy that dinner. He barely ate because he lost his appetite. He didn't like his brother-in-law's parents. Compared to his parents Keith was actually normal. His parents were snotty and rich and liked the nastiest foods. Which Lucaas's mom decided to make and put on the table. Caviar, Octo-Legs, Shellfish, Horse Tongue and Chicken Feet. Lucas was ready to barf.
To get away from his and his future family. He offered to wash and clean-up while the rest of them went to talk and tell stories in the living room.
Lucas:
Can you please bring some of that Spanish food shit I smelt when I was at your house PLEASE!
Angel:
Lmfaoo sure meet me at the window in 15
Lucaas went to his room and opened his window where Angel was waiting.
"What took you so long?" Angel asked.
"I was cleaning up a family dinner, I'll text you what happened," he said. Angel put a large bowl on a piece of thick long wood. He stretched his arm as far as he could to get the wood to reach Lucaas's window. Lucas grabbed the bowl.
Soon food was not the only thing that the two exchanged. As the last two weeks of summer rolled by. It was clear that Angel and Lucas were new best friends. They had been spending lots of time together.
Today Angel and Lucas decided to play a new game they had bought. They had been playing already for three non-stop hours so they took a break from that addictive game.
The first day back to school was tomorrow. They would be sophomores. Angel is anxiously excited. Lucas, not so much.
"You have to introduce me to your friends tomorrow," Angel said full of energy. His accent isn't as strong as it was before he came. Lucas knows that Angel only speaks Spanish with his family.
"My 'friends' are mostly girls," Lucas admitted, "They were girls who I dated but we all ended up being something like friends or maybe acquaintances. Except I know this one guy who lives next door who used to be my bestfriend till eighth grade when he totally turned into the popular jock who was to good to hang out with a loser like me."
"You're not a loser."
"Right."
"You're mostly to yourself huh?" Angel asked curiously.
"Yea, till one day I saw a chance to make a friend with someone who doesn't know anyone here and is new. So now I have you."
"Ha, you make it sound like a love story," Angel laughed out, his smile wide.
"Ha ha ha," Lucas sticks out his tongue at Angel who is lying on the floor on his back.
Lucas decides to lay next to his friend on the floor as they both stare at the ceiling.
"You know, I used to always be alone too. No one talked to me because I moved around and I had an accent. I moved here for the rest of high school and thought I might spend it alone as usual. So I'm glad you came to talk to me," he smiled at Lucas before getting back up and grabbing first player controller for the XBOX Live.
Tell me what you think. Please review. Until Next Chapter ;)
