Chapter Dos: Hot Guys and Sibling Problems
Aidan led me into the ballroom, and once again, heads turned. Mainly guys our age. Aidan noticed this, and I noticed his eyes harden the tiniest bit.
Score for Tammy!
He dragged me over to some seats on the edge of the room. A group of young girls near us glanced at Aidan and giggled annoyingly. He smiled at them, and they squealed and ran off.
"Aidan," I said disapprovingly. "They were like, thirteen."
He smirked, shaking his hair out of his eyes and leaning back in his chair. "There's no harm in smiling, is there, Tammy?"
I rolled my eyes.
"So, Tam, what's your New Year Resolutions for 2013?" Aidan asked me.
I bit my lip in thought. "To be honest, I don't really know," I confessed. "I'm kinda stuck on this year's ones still."
He raised an eyebrow. "Oh, really? And what would that be?"
"You'll find out soon enough," I said cryptically.
The other eyebrow rose too. "Is one of your resolutions to build an enigmatic persona?"
"Is one of yours to expand your vocabulary?" I replied.
He looked pleased. "It was, actually."
I laughed, shaking my head.
Suddenly I heard someone clear their throat in front of me. I looked up.
My jaw dropped.
Standing in front of me was the second hottest guy I'd ever met.
(No prizes for guessing the first.)
He had tousled blonde hair and dark green eyes. His nose was long and sharp, and he had high cheekbones. His lips were a soft pink, and they smiled at me, revealing two rows of perfect teeth. He was wearing a tux, like Aidan.
"Hey."
Damn, even his voice was sexy.
"Uh… hi," I said, confused as to why such a gorgeous guy was talking to li'l old me.
"I'm Hunter."
"Tammy."
"Wanna dance?" Hunter asked, smiling crookedly which somehow made him a million times more attractive.
I considered my options. I was alone with Aidan at the moment, sure, but it wasn't every day a guy like Hunter asked me to dance. Besides, I still had five more hours. Plenty of time, right?
And there was another benefit... I glanced across at Aidan, and his expression was dark. Perfect.
"Sure!" I said, maybe a little too brightly.
I stood up, but Aidan grabbed my arm.
"What?" I hissed at him.
"You don't even know this guy," he muttered at me, sounding angry.
(Jealous much?)
"Well I can get to know him then, can't I?" I muttered back, shaking off his arm.
I looked up at Hunter, and smiled. "Let's go."
Me and Hunter danced for a while, then, breathless, we sat down, and he went off to get us drinks. He returned with two cups of this fancy punch-type stuff.
"So, Tammy," He began, his eyes locked on mine. "Tell me a bit about yourself."
"Why don't you go first? You're the one who asked me to dance," I countered, smirking.
He laughed. "I suppose you've got me there."
He put down his cup. "Hmm, where to start? Okay, My name is Hunter Griffiths. I'm 17 years old and I'm a senior at Lakeview High School."
"Woah, woah, hold up," I said, holding my hand up. "You go to the same school as me? And you're one year above me? How come I've never noticed you before?"
He smiled crookedly again. "Just cause you haven't noticed me, Tammy, doesn't mean I haven't noticed you."
"Wait, you know me?" I asked in surprise.
"Of course I know you."
"What do you mean, of course?"
"The whole school knows you. Tammy Carlson, 16, junior. Sassy, skater, unbelievably gorgeous and unattainable. Best friend of Aidan Greeves."
I choked on the unbelievably gorgeous part.
"The entire school thinks I'm unbelievably gorgeous?" I repeated, dazed.
Hunter shrugged. "Well, yeah, because it's true," he said seriously.
I sat back in my chair, thrown by this piece of news.
The second hottest guy I know thinks I'm unbelieveably gorgeous.
"Um… thanks, Hunter." I said, blushing.
"My pleasure." he winked, and I died a little from his sexiness."Now, it's your turn."
"Well, apparently, you know everything about me already," I said, still not believing what he'd just told me.
"Not really. Those were more like observations." he explained. "I want to know about you… you you."
"Me me?" I asked, smirking.
"Oh, shut up," he mumbled.
I laughed. "Well, as you said, I'm Tammy Carlson, 16, junior at Lakeview High. My real name is actually Tamsin, but only my grandma calls me that, or my mom when she's really angry. I have a twin sister called Callie, and her real name is actually Callista. Ummm... I'm a total boardhead, and um... yeah," I trailed off lamely.
Hunter raised his eyebrows at me. "Tammy, you basically told me everything I just told you."
I shrugged, smirking "You'll have to figure out the rest yourself, Griffiths."
"Is that a challenge, Carlson?"
I leaned forward until our faces were mere inches away, and his breath hitched.
"You betcha." I breathed.
Our eyes were locked in some sort of sexual staring contest, and i felt him leaning closer and closer.
When he was so close our lips were almost touching, I whispered "You wish, Griffiths," and kissed him on the nose. Laughing, I drew back.
His expression was disgruntled. "Bloody tease. I knew they were right when they said you were unattainable."
"Only to some," I said mysteriously.
He groaned. "Jesus, woman, can't you give me a straight answer for once?"
"Now where's the fun in that, Hunt?" I asked cheekily, checking the time on my phone
8pm.
Four hours to go.
I stood up. "See you around, Hunter."
"Wait, you're leaving?" he asked disappointedly.
"Places to go, people to meet and all that jazz. We'll see each other again before the end of the night."
I started walking away.
"Is that a promise?" Hunter called after me.
"It's whatever you want it to be," I said over my shoulder, winking.
Then I walked off, feeling Hunter's gaze boring into my back.
As I made my way through the crowd, I thought about Hunter. He was actually a really great guy. If I wasn't for Aidan, I'd definitely have fallen for him.
I stopped and looked around.
Where was he?
What was it Mrs Greeves had said?
"Trying to keep track of my son when you're not here is like trying to keep track of smoke."
At that moment, I agreed whole-heartedly with her.
Suddenly, a hand shot out of nowhere, grabbed me and dragged me to the side.
I looked around. It was Callie.
"What?" I asked irritably.
Callie was wringing her french-tipped hands in despair. "Tammy, you have to help me!"
"With what?"
"Well I... I might've... beenhittingonCameronWood," she said super fast.
I stared at her, wide-eyed. "You were hitting on Cameron Wood? CALLISTA JASMINE CARLSON!HAVE YOU LOST YOUR MIND?" I shrieked.
Cameron Wood was the boyfriend of Stella Peck, the queen bee of the juniors at Lakeview High. She was incredibly pretty, and rotten to the core. She had straight ginger hair (I know, as weird as it may seem, there are evil gingers.) and light blue eyes. She was the type to wear tiny slutty skirts and tiny slutty tops and just a slut in general. And she guarded Cam like a bulldog. He wasn't even allowed to look at other girls.
Oh, and did I mention she's my arch enemy?
"It's just... she wasn't around, and so I thought... he flirted back, Tammy, honestly, he did!" cried Callie in despair.
I sighed. "Of course he flirted back, Callie, he doesn't like Stella that much! And you're pretty! But now Stella's gonna kill you!"
"I know, I know, she saw us and she looked so murderous I ran away. Please, Tammy, she's out for my blood. You've got to help me!"
I sighed. "Cal, you know that she already hates you by default because of me. Why did you do this?"
"You know I've had a crush on Cam since the eeventh grade," Callie said quietly.
I looked at her, eyes downcast and biting her lip.
This whole incident was basically our relationship. Callie would dig herself into a hole, and I'd have to rescue her. And every time, I'd vow that I wouldn't help her the next time, but each time I couldn't help myself. She was my sister, furthermore, my twin, so when she was sad, I was sad too. And I really did feel sorry for her. I was sure Cam liked her too, but he couldn't do anything because of Stella. At that thought, my hatred for her increased tenfold. How dare she keep my sister from happiness? She had no right.
"What do you want me to do?" I asked Callie.
She brightened immediately, and pulled me into a hug, squealing "Thank you! I love you, Tammy!"
"Love you too. Though sometimes I wonder why," I added in an undertone.
"Just... talk to her, or something. I think she'll find us soon," she added worridley.
"There she comes," I said, seeing the redhead storming towards us in her light blue dress, which, surprisingly, didn't clash with her hair, and even more surprisingly, was floor length.
"Before she comes, have you seen Aidan?" I asked Callie.
"I saw him heading up the stairs again -"
"YOU LITTLE SLUT!" yelled Stella, coming to a stop in front of us.
And so the battle begins.
