The Fallen Rainbow

One fine day while walking 'round,

I found a rainbow on the ground.

Dappled with spots of red and blue,

Orange and green and purple too.

"Help me!" It said, I've "fallen down;

And now I'm lying on the ground!

I cannot fly, high in the sky,

If I'm here much longer, I'll surely die!"

And as I watched, it faded away,

To brown and white and black and grey.

Till all the sign it was ever around,

Was a little patch of muddy ground.

I was there the day a rainbow died;

Since then I've not laughed, but only sighed.
