Beguiling Spongaloo
Author:

Another nonsense poem, again in a Spike Milligan style (Cheers Spike!). I think this one vaguely originates from the idea of the Gnolls in Terry Pratchett's Discworld. Nice one Terrence.

Beguiling Spongaloo

Beguiling, bewitching and beautiful to behold

The Spongaloo is none of these, and looks far too old

The Spongaloo's an oddbod thing, strange yet rather sweet

If you see him crouching down, he's seen something on the street

The Spongaloo is a weird li'l beast, green with flecks of blue

He has two horns upon his nose, and on his back, a shoe

His feet turn up at the toes and his knees go front-to-back

His arms drop down rather long so he can rummage in his sack

His bag he fills with this and that, bits that he has plundered

Yet all in there is nought but junk, why it's there he never wonders

He likes things shiny like glittering gold and things of chrome or steel

Silver buttons and knives and forks, or radio tuning wheels

The Spongaloo picks things up and keeps them for himself

Yet they're only ever in his bag and never on a shelf

Still he carries on looking, for more stuff to pick up

And throw into that big old bag with all his other stuff

To summarize the Spongaloo is quite a tricky task

He seems quite simple in his way, yet his complexities are vast

The Spongaloo it's best to say is happy with his lot

He knows you think he's rather odd, but doesn't care a jot.
