They say that my hair used to be the color of honey, but as I killed those creatures of the night, their blood became mixed within the locks of my hair. Even those who grew up with me and my brother Claude have been telling such tales to their children. They also say that my eyes were formed from the storms in the sky. That may be true. Everyone who has ever known me has said that my temper is like that of a thunderstorm, so it is only natural that my unnatural temper is reflected in my eyes.
However, my temper and gender is only bearable to the hunting party of which I am a part of. We are a collection of the finest hunters that France has ever known, each with their own weapon crafted to their skills and the destruction of the blood-stealing monsters that have taken our lives and our peace of mind. Achille Baudin is skilled with a bow and arrow, but he prefers the simplicity and quickness of a crossbow. Jacques Fortier is a hunter of game and brings his hunting rifle with him when we hunt. Daniel Lapointe is good with all weapons, but even in his new occupation as a hunter of creatures of the night, he still uses his daggers from his thieving days, only this time he uses his skills for home and country. I prefer the use of a family sword coated in silver, but I am good with a pistol when I need to be. Apart we can kill several of these beasts, but together, we are close to undefeatable.
My dear parents do not wish their only daughter to go off hunting monsters at night with three men, especially when Achille has a reputation with women. But I prefer the life of a hunter than the life of a housewife. Besides, ever since I became a hunter of monsters, I do not need to chase away the men of the town. My occupation does that for me.
Tonight all four of us will go on the hunt for these monsters. All of us are armed with silver weapons and wooden stakes as well as crosses and water blessed by the church. I have my scarlet chocker with a silver chain sewed into the fabric to protect my neck from the creature's fangs resting on my bed at the moment, but I will put it on once it is time to leave. I will come back with my kills and the coin from the church and the crown to support my family. We all need the money, and we all risk our lives every night to help and protect the ones we love.
The sun will set soon. I need to leave for the woods before darkness reigns and the monsters come out.
