The history of Legends.
A soft whisper of wind blew through the trees as the full moon rose in the starry skies above. Shadows slowly crept along the ground as the reflection of the silvery orb gradually got higher and higher. The woods were peaceful and for a moment a cloud covered the moon completely so that no light escaped onto the land below.
A lone figure made its way through the darkness with swift movements. They paused only as the light dimmed and then continued on their way to the edge of the forest. Their cloaked covered them from head to foot and masked their movements between the trees with ease. As they made their way into the clearing they paused once more and listened to the surrounding sounds.
A dog in the distance barked and a few farmland animals could be heard grazing upon the grass in fields not far from the figure. They uttered a soft incantation in a strange language and within a heartbeat a small wisp of a flame floated around the figure and lighting their features up in the darkness.
A slender nose and rose-red lips could be seen under the figures hood followed by strands of flame-red hair. The figure had feminine curves and an average sized chest that could be seen despite the clock covering her form.
She glanced around her before finding that which she had been looking for; a path. She peered forward and grinned lightly before following the path past the fields and stables, she walked even past the farmhouse and further again until she reached the main pathways that lead onto her destination.
"This would have been simpler had I just teleported to the city." She sighed to herself after a moment or two. She did not seem tired of the walk but she did seem bored. She rolled her shoulders into a light shrug and then proceeded to continue upon her travels; the moon gradually growing higher as the moments passed.
It was almost dawn when the cloaked female figure finally entered the city, the only lifeforms awake at this hour were the guards who had the night shift and a few nocturnal animals.
"Halt who goes there?" Called one of the guardsmen at the gate as he moved to stop the female figure from entering by placing a sword in front of the city gates.
"A traveller with a message." Came the soft reply of the female. She raised both her hands and slowly covered her head a little more with the cloak to keep the other from seeing too much. She gave a light smile before continuing, "I must speak with your ruler. I'm sure he must be expecting me by now."
The guard gave the woman a wary look, refusing to move from his position. Upon seeing this the female chuckled and dug into her cloak for something. "I mean no harm. Though it is true that the hour is early and I am a little suspicious am I not?"
The female finally pulled out a small totem of what appeared to be a snake made out of fire opal. The item glowed and shimmered as if there were a fire alight inside of it as she held it up for the other to get a better look. Once she lowered the item again the glowing vanished as quickly as it came.
The guard glanced down cautiously to the totem and then back to the women. She returned his look with another small smile before saying airily, "I am well aware you know what this means, good man, so no need for the looks. Though one can hardly blame you I suppose, but no. I do not bring a message of death today."
"Then what message do you bring?" The guard asked, lowering his weapon to his side, though he continued to keep both eyes upon the cloaked female. "What does the Goddess of the Underworld wish with our King?"
"A message I am not to tell a lowly guard." The figure lazily replied.
The guard thinned his lips but rather than grow frustrated he simply nodded and motioned for the female to follow him.
"Guard the post until I return." He said simply to one of the other guards on patrol who nodded his head and saluted the man before taking his place as sentry at the gate.
The woman smiled lightly as she followed the man down the streets; the only light came from the odd candle lit lamps dotted about here and there. She seemed amused by the little lamps and would pause to watch the small flicker of flames before continuing to follow the guard once more.
The guard was cautious as he walked towards the castle, and would glance back at the cloaked woman often. He had so many questions he wished to ask her but knew she would not answer them. It was not often a messenger of one of the Gods came to speak openly with a mortal, if that was indeed who she claimed to be.
No. She had not claimed anything yet. He had assumed and assuming was never a good thing when it came to the immortals. Least of all the one who would judge you once you died.
He thinned his lips in thought as he tried to make sense of things. It was rare for anyone to carry totems of the gods, let alone ones made out of the rocks that those gods represented. And they certainly did not glow like that in the hands of a mortal. Most worshippers went to the temples and prayed to the cloaked statues. There was no need to craft totems and it was said that only the Gods themselves and their messengers the Celestial's and Ancients would even carry around such objects to prove who they are if needed be.
Of course this was mostly legend and myth but now the Guard had room for wonder. What did this woman really want with the King and just how was it tied with the Underworld.
The cloaked women continued to follow with curious movements. To the guard she seemed as human as any other, yet he had never seen hair as red as hers. He hadn't seen the rest of her features to be sure if she was indeed human or not – though he expected the latter. Myth said that one could never tell a messenger of the Gods from any other mortal because they were able to mask their true looks from mortals. Only those who truly wished their presence known would be known by others of whom, or rather, what they were.
They arrived at the castle just as people were beginning to get ready for the mornings hustle and bustle. Peasants quickly moved out of the way of the Guardsman, they seemed nervous and somewhat afraid. A smirk crept upon the females lips as she concealed it under the hood of her cloak. This present King wasn't known for his kindness, though this did not concern her. She was not here to tell him how to handle his subjects. Nor did she fear him in the slightest.
They entered the palace and the woman peered around before whistling. "Not bad. Not bad at all."
"Please, my Lady, wait here a moment and I will see if the King is available..." The guard said, tipping his head to the figure before making his way further into the castle. The female watched him disappear off into one of the doorways of the spacious hall before she continued to look about the inside.
The stone floor was covered in luxury carpets woven of fine fabrics, the patterns upon them were quite fancy too. One of them, the female could swear had gold woven into the designs. There were also tables full with fancy vases and other decorations. She had to admit, she was impressed by just how much stuff was in the hallway alone. She gathered more valuable items would be kept much safer, not that she had any desire for such trinkets.
Finally an escort of guards came back down the hallway and paused not far from the cloaked figure. One of the larger men; a leader she assumed, stood forward and nodded to her. "The King will be able to see you now, my lady. We apologize for the wait."
The figure played an amused expression upon her face. So many guards for a simple escort to the King. Did they expect they could stop her if she meant harm to their leader? Or was this how the King treated every visitor, no matter how powerful he knew them to be? She laughed a little to herself and allowed the guards to take her to her destination.
A few months later.
"So you're telling me that they will arrive on my lands in a few days time?" The King said as he stroked his black beard and leaned his crowned head upon the rest of his throne. His hazel eyes peered towards the woman who stood beside him. She had long red hair which reached just past her shoulders and red eyes to match her hair. Adding to the odd look of this women were small pointed ears framing her face.
"Indeed. Remember they may put up a fight... they're tricky demonic little things. They can cast frightful magic too, and I know how you humans are about magic. The only way to combat magic is like I taught you. You'll need to shackle them with this object so they cannot cast any spells." The woman said with a nod of her head.
"And they were created for enslavement , yes?" The King continued to stroke his beard in wonder.
The female chuckled, "Do you always question the Gods motives like this?" She asked offering the King a smile.
"No. Even as King I would dare not question the motives of the Gods." He said giving a thoughtful look. "It is just... Yukiro is the goddess of the underworld and judge of all mortal spirits when we pass on to the after life. Why of all the Gods would she create... what did you call them?"
The female gave an airy laugh. "They call themselves the Byr'Prenwyn... they take the forms of the Bry'Du but are not the same. They escaped from the Underworld and onto Terra so Yukiro decided that they were too dangerous to just leave them alone but she has compassion enough to not order for their slaughter. They don't know just how dangerous they are unless they are controlled. A pity really as they were born from her own hands." The woman said dramatically.
"Then my men will be ready to collect them. They should not pose too much of a thread with the information you have given me. I thank you, messenger of the Goddess herself." The King said tipping his head to the woman.
"Well then. Now that you know how to contain the flow of magic and the creatures, please do excuse me. I have much more tasks I should complete before the days end. We will not see one another again so do take care of them for us." The woman bowed her head gracefully to the King before exiting the throne room.
When she knew she was alone she smirked to herself, whispering, "that will teach Salina to come into the Underworld and try and tell me how to run my realm. Pesky Goddess should stop trying to bring her rules down onto me. I can run the Underworld just fine without her telling me the place needs a more 'feminine' touch. I swear she thinks she's better than me. It is bad enough she encourages her Celestial's to treat me and my children as heartless monsters. This little trick on her own creatures should be quite amusing." The woman giggled to herself before uttering some words in her strange language and vanishing from sight.
