Hello! This is my first ever FictionPress entry!
This poem is about my faith towards God. I got the inspiration for it when I was musing over the quote, "Everything happens for a reason." I decided to... analyse it? Explore it? After much thought, I decided that, being a devoted Catholic, expressing it through religion was the best way to go about it. So here it is!
I walk in the rain
Where the weather is bleak.
I thank God for it
It means that we will have water to drink.
I pore over my schoolwork
The words meaning something to me
I thank God for it
It means that I am able to read and learn.
I argue with my brother
I think about it for a while
I thank God for it
It means that I have a family.
I lie down on the grass
Wincing in the sun.
I thank God for it
It means that I will not freeze.
I puzzle over my story
Wondering what to write next.
I thank God for it
It means that I have the ability to write.
Why do people take things for granted?
When these things are given to you by God for your own good?
Why do people complain about things
When they were created by God for no other reason but your well-being?
When God created the world
He was thinking of you.
When God controls the weather
He knows what it is essential for you.
When God gave you an education
He had your best interests at heart.
When God gave you friends and a family
He knew what you needed.
"Why then," you ask, "why then are people dissatisfied with their lives?
"Can He not improve their lives?
"Can He not make their lives happier?
"Can He not erase the things that displease them from their lives?"
Because, I explain gently,
Because when you are dissatisfied,
You do not think properly about what you are dissatisfied with.
God gave you everything for a reason. A good reason.
The next time you complain about something, reconsider.
Ask yourself, "What is the reason for this thing?"
Think long and hard.
You will find God's reasoning behind it and thank Him.
So, if you are reading this now, thank God.
It means that you have a well-functioning computer.
It means that you are able to read.
And most importantly, it means that you are alive.
I really hoped you enjoyed this poem. I apologise if it wasn't great. I'm new to this site, so please feel free to give me advice! Please review, all feedback is welcome!
