it started with a daze and a dance

and a make-believe romance

that turned real as the sun beating down

the middle was ice cream and smiles

and running for miles

and pretending nothing's wrong with the world

the ending was bittersweet eyes

and a dozen goodbyes

all wrapped up in a glance and a frown

and then we woke up and the world was all dark

all that was left of that summer; two broken hearts
