When we're hurting, so deeply within ourselves that we think no one notices, we fake smiles. We show the world our happy faces and try to convince everyone that we're fine. But we're not, and someone will notice. They'll notice and they'll ask us if we are okay.

Is That a Real Smile?
Is that a real smile
I see on your face?
Or are you trying
Simply to appear normal?
Is that a true smile?
Does it touch your soul?
Or are you hiding
All your bitter tears?
Is that a real smile?
It barely touches your eyes.
Your soul is being torn in two
And you think you are alone.
Is that a real smile?
Can you see the white light
At the very end of this
Long, dark, and endless road?
It can be a true smile.
There is light, and there is hope
Left in this world for you
If only you let yourself see it
Smile, smile a real smile.
It will happen, I know it.
Reach out and take my hand,
And I will show you. Trust me.
