This is a story told at the very beginning of time, the first story ever told. This is the story, of how we came to have words.

Once, we lived in a world without words. We could not speak, for we had no words to speak with. We could not write, for there were no words to write with.

The Writer in the sky saw our troubles, and decided to give us words. He came down in a rain of punctuation. Commas and periods were scattered over the ground. Exclamation points fell like lightning, and the seas raged with apostrophes.

The Writer came to us, his cloak of semi colons billowing around him. He raised his question mark staff, and slammed it to the ground. Suddenly, our minds were filled with new knowledge. We could speak!

Wishing to thank The Writer for his wonderful gift, we asked what we could do to please him. He asked only that we would use the words he gave us, that they would not go to waste.

As he asked, we used his words, creating new languages, and new words, redefining other words, until there were more words than even The Writer himself could count.

Those who create with words are still called writers, in honor of the one who gave us words.
