"I'm older than you." I said as a matter a fact. "Perhaps a month. But you're as innocent and dense as a child" That's when I decided I'd to prove them wrong. Reviews are returned. Prologue
The air was crisp when I reached the other side of the door. The sun hid under blankets of clouds above me. It was unusually cooler in the months of September. Hairs at the back of my neck stood as I caught in the scent of the weather. I reached back to cover my head with the hood of my jacket only to find someone already doing the favour.
"Morning!" A flash of ember hair flew right in front of me before slapping the back of my head. The colour made her hair looked unruly and messy despite falling perfectly in place. There was a dash of freckles just below the bags of her olive green eyes.
"Kate" I slapped her back with a force not near to hers.
"How was summer?" Kate was towering over me no more than a few inches.
"Fine, I guess." I said sullenly. As a matter of fact, it's more than fine. Every minute of it was glorious. I didn't have to put up with shallow people and home works from school. But soon the hot courses of the day began to cool down, signalling an end for the summer and a beginning of another school year.
"Ready for your first day of High School?" she asked jokingly while prodding me with her elbow.
"Our first day", I emphasized. And no, I was not as ecstatic as everyone else. Even I could tell by Kate's sour glance that neither she would want to be sitted in a closed room learning algorithms and chemical laws yet again.
"You take a deep breath and you walk to the doors-"
"Please, I didn't bring an umbrella with me. If you mind," she made a face at my direction and I laughed in response. It was either she hated Taylor Swift or I was really that bad at singing.
Together, we rode the bus to school feeling as anxious as ever. Something doesn't seem right.
The front doors poured with students outside the buildings. Even just by looking, it made me suffocated at the very least.
"Your first class is?" Kate asked while playing with a loose string at the hem of her blouse, a thing she normally does when feeling anxious.
"Chemistry, I think." I acknowledged her absentmindedly. My eyebrows scrunched up as I looked around for any familiar face.
"I think you have it with Matt. Lucky you already know someone. Just leave me alone to die" she exasperated. I patted her head reassuringly even if it meant raising my arm above my head.
"I heard Jane has Statistics with you." Her eyes shot up and nodded in agreement as if she almost forgot. The wariness in her face started to loosen a bit.
I could no longer wait to see Matt. We've been telling each other almost everything for the past year. Talking through text isn't as exciting as exchanging stories with him personally. He's one of the few people I know who wouldn't judge me, and I wouldn't judge him in return.
Jane on the other hand is the life of a party. She doesn't drink or do drugs, no. But she acts like it. Often times I think she has ADHD. But what's the fun in friends when one doesn't act like a crack head.
"Still as short as ever, I see." I craned my neck to the side only to find Dave and Robb walking towards us.
"Peasants," I nodded mockingly. Dave almost grew an inch taller yet again. He has chocolate brown hair that falls above his eyebrows complementing his grey eyes. If they were wolves in a pack, he would be Alpha. Not that he stands as the leader, but his barks give him a top spot on my annoying list. Never would you win an argument against this guy. Good thing we're friends, at least he tones down the insults just a tad bit. He rolled his eyes at my response.
"Kate, Emmy" Robb waved at our direction. He was slightly likable compared to Dave. His jet black hair was brushed slightly in a quiff. The shape of his jaw was pronounced and well built. I took him as average, but girls told me otherwise. I could make a list of people I know who's been crushing on him. Too bad he has a girlfriend. But he had a temper of an old lady. I guess he gets his period at least twice a month.
"I better go meet up Jane. See you guys later" Kate walked off in the opposite direction stalking over a mass of people. The students were considerably less than a few minutes ago. No wonder, classes were about to start soon.
"I'd love to stay and chat-" Dave cut me off with a snort. He's fully aware of my annoyance with his constant japes.
"But I need to go to class. Something you might have to go to as well" I continued with a scowl
"Emmy wait-" Robb yanked my hair back and I looked at him expectantly. If he was going to pull my hair like that, it better be worth it. Dave was looking at him as if telling him to go on.
"I was just talking to Dave and-" the rings of the bell caused sudden disturbance and the hoard of students went in to the building like a stampede. Almost instantly, they filled the halls and only few stayed outside of the campus, including us.
"We're late. Maybe some other time" He said hastily that I almost didn't hear it. At the corner of my eye I could see Dave face palming himself.
Something is definitely going on.
Author's Note: How was it? =) Please do tell me. It would be highly appreciated and returned. Thank you!
