Chapter 5

"I am Corin, by the way,"
"Lara," she replied, marveling at how clear everything was even though it was dark out. She wondered what else she could do now.
She walked her bike onto the ship, and turned her head at a tugging on her back. Corin was lifting her duffel bag from her shoulder, but her arm was in the way. With a slight smile, she lifted her arm, and allowed her bag to be taken from her. She was still exhausted, and felt she could fall asleep standing up.
Corin led her to a cabin that was mostly used for storage and apologized for the mess. She shrugged and put down the kickstand on her motorcycle, then accepted her bag from Corin. She dug through it for a moment, then handed him a wad of cash.
"Thanks kid," he said gruffly, stuffing the money in his pocket and leaving her in the dark cabin.
Lara looked around for a bit, then shrugged and laid out on a few boxes, using her bag as a pillow.

"Wake up, kid!" came a voice, cutting through her dreams. Lara sat up to find Corin leaning in the doorway, a panicked look on his face.
Lara rolled to her feet, then followed Corin in his mad dash to the skidded to a stop upon hitting open air. There was a small crowd made up of the crew of the ship. Surrounding them were armed men. Their leader stood above the deck on a pile of crates.
"This is everyone?" he asked, voice calm and steady.
"Yes," someone called out.
"Who's the girl?" the leader asked, looking at Lara.
"A passenger," Corin growled
"This is a cargo ship,"
"She paid good money,"
"The kid did?"
"You heard me."
He raised an eyebrow. "Who is she?"
"No idea."
Lara felt energy coursing through her, like she did earlier that day before her near-death. She wondered suddenly if that would happen again.
"Girl!" the man called out.
Lara raised her eyebrow in turn. "Yes?" she asked, keeping her voice calm and steady.
"Don't give me that insolence, child! Who are you?" he roared
"I don't see why it matters," She could hear the armed men shifting their feet and someone running towards the man, but her eyes were focused in on the stranger.
"Why, you-" he was cut off as someone tackled him from atop the boxes. He and Corin tumbled to the ground. "Guards, shoot her!"
Lara spun to face the other men, listening as Corin fought their leader and the ship's crew tried to escape. One man managed to get out of the crowd and aimed at her chest. Instinctively, she threw up her hands as he pulled the trigger.
Bright blue light lit up the ship. Her hands, her eyes were glowing. And in front of her, three bullets hung in the air. She gasped with surprise, then concentrated. Somehow, she knew what to do. A moment later, the bullets began moving back towards the man who shot them. Slowly at first, then faster, until they hit their target.
