This was one of my English assignments last semester.
I had a lot of fun with it because there were certain words that we had to put in it, so it made it a challenge.
I was really happy with how it turned out and I still like it :)
If people read it and like it, feel free to review or PM me if you want me to write more? I would honestly love to, but only if people read it!
Enjoy :)
She slowly peered across the street; the dark night with the streetlights on made the old house appear even more skeletal. She had heard stories that the neighbors could hear phantoms in the night. All the more reason I should leave now. No, I have to complete this dare. I need to. She swiftly crossed the street and began the walk up to the house. She checked her watch to see how much time she had. 9:53, an hour until curfew. Okay, all I need to do is go in, grab the bracelet and get out.
She walked up the stairs and looked around making sure no one had followed her. Courtney said she would be her alibi if she needed one. Thank goodness. She pushed open the door, the creak sent shivers up her spine as she stepped over the threshold. They said it would be upstairs in the furthest room at the back-end of the house. Go figure. She began climbing the stairs, looking at the family photos left behind on the walls. One photo caught her eye. It was of a man. A military man it seemed. It was his eyes that caught her off guard; they seemed to be so real even in this old photo long after he had obviously passed on.
She was so entranced by the photo she didn't hear the intermittent thud coming from what seemed to be upstairs. She finally looked away and stumbled as she continued her way up the stairs and onto the second landing of the house. She peered down the dark hallway and that's when she heard the thud for the first time. What was that?! It sounded like it came from behind her so she continued forward. Furthest room... She walked to the end of the hallway and faced the last door. She gripped the handle and turned.
It opened without any creaks or sticking; as if someone had recently been through here… She went inside the room. What…this cannot be right! The room was empty. She couldn't believe her friends would trick her like this. Yeah some friends… Where's the hidden camera? Getting me all freaked out over nothing! She turned to leave the way she came when the door slammed shut by an invisible force. She screamed, startled.
"Get me out of here!" She screamed. With a sudden surge of courage and adrenaline she felt she could make it out unscathed. She gripped the handle and threw open the door. She flew down the hallway and as she turned to begin her descent of the stairs, the hallway rug slipped out from under her feet and she tumbled down the stairs. She landed on her wrist and heard a sickening crunch. As her courage slowly ebbed away, fear manifested its way into her mind. She swallowed a cry as pain shot into her arm. She began to feel the night was ceaseless. She lay at the bottom of the stairs, cradling her broken wrist as she blacked out.
She was found the next day; neighbors called the police station reporting tortured screams coming from the house all throughout the night. They said they would get someone on it right away, but didn't because it was always the same reports for the 'old house'. When they found her they were in complete shock. She was broken, bruised, and looked as if someone or something had indeed tortured her. When she awoke she was in a regressive state. She was able to say so much as to let the authorities know why she was there and what had happened before she blacked out. The doctors say she was lucky to be alive. They said after she had blacked out, something had in fact tortured her; she had deep gashes which were unaccounted for in her story.
However…she knew they would never properly heal…and she would carry the secret to her grave…along with what did it.
Merci beaucoup for reading!
It's very short but I kinda like it that way :)
Let me know what you think, honestly!
