I see his face as I walk through the halls with my head down. I blush slightly and I keep walking forward. He walks towards me and he looks so nervous.
"Hey Lucy", Zachary says smiling.
"Hi Zach", I reply looking down.
"Are you going to the 50s movie mash up tonight?", he asks suddenly blushing.
"Uhm, I not really sure if I can", I push my hair behind my ear, "My parents are pretty strict about grades, I am here because of that damn scholarship."
"Well, if you do, look for me. I'll be there", he says smiling.
"Okay. Bye", I say. I walk away quickly and open my Emily Dickinson book and start to read from where my crushed rose was put.
I open my locker gingerly and put my bag in. I take out my apple and begin eating while I read. I slide down to the floor while turing the page. I get lost in a world of one sided love and an empty feeling inside.
'You and me both ,sister, you and me both' I think.
Her poems always attract my attention ,while people think she is sad and depressing, I think she is heartfelt and dramatic.
"Stupid scholarship girl!", Rachel taunts. Rachel Davis, the most popular girl in school and the biggest slut if you ask me. "Why do you just sit out here and read. Is that all you ever do?". Her posse laughs as I continue to read.
"Maybe the girls deaf", one jock says.
"Explains why she's so quiet", another mumbles.
"Leave her alone", Zach says as he walks up to the crowd. They quickly leave.
"You didn't have to do that", I say as I walk away.
"I wanted to", he says falling into step with me.
"Well don't next time", I yell as I whip around, my dark brown hair following in suit. Zach's eyes glaze over in hurt and the normally stormy blue looks gray, "If you help then I'll get used to it. Then you get close and I'm going to be the one hurt if you leave." Tears begin to pool behind my eyes but I refuse to let them fall.
"I won't leave you", he says his voice hoarse.
"You say that now", I say beginning to walk away, "You don't know me."
He grabs my arm as I begin to storm away again, "Then let me in", he begs as he searches in my eyes for something he may never find.
"If I let you in, you may never come out", I say.
"For you, I'm willing to take that risk", he says. He pulls me to him and crushes me to his chest in a warm embrace.
"Thanks", I say into his chest.
"Now", he says pulling away, "We must find you a new favorite author". I smile and look down.
"Guess I can't read about unrequited love", I say.

I look down at my new book by Edgar Allan Poe. I blush profusely as I remember how much hell Zach gave me to buy this book. I love his writing though. Its bittersweet, and blunt. Sometimes I wish I could go back to this time period and ask him questions about everything. It's been two years since Zach saved me (as he liked to call it) and we began dating. We are both 20 now and going to NYU. I major in American Literature and he majors in law. We live together and he has been acting weird recently.
"Lucy, come in here real quick", he yells from our living room. I walk out and see roses everywhere and candles lit "Lucy Daniels, I've been with you for two years and in love with you for four. You are my best friend, partner in crime, and love of my life rolled into one. Will you please marry me?". He pulls out a simple ring and looks up at me.
"Oh my", I say" Yes! I would love to marry you".

"I SWEAR TO GOD IF YOU EVER GET ME PREGNANT AGAIN, I WILL MURDER YOU", I scream as my baby boy, Alexander, is brought into the world. Now I have another life to support and I can't wait to start. 28 and a baby boy, I'm screwed.
