My name is Samara. I'm 16, and a mutant freak. I'm 98% human and 2% avian (which is really just a fancy way of saying bird). My sister, 7 year old Gemini, who looks like a mini version of me, is also 98% human and 2% avian.
We don't have a home. We live in a science lab called Spectrum, which is pretty much the equivalent of Hell. Children are subjected to unethical experiments there, with varying results. Mine and Gemini's parents gave us up to the scientists at Spectrum for money.
When each of us was born, my parents gave me and Gemini straight to the scientists (who are evil, by the way) at Spectrum, who subjected us to a surgical procedure to remove 2% of our human genes, so that we would be only 98% human. The scientists replaced our 2% human genes with 2% avian genes. They didn't give us any anesthetic, so we felt the whole painful thing all the way through the procedure.
There are a lot of experiments at Spectrum. We all live in cages, and have to be tested on daily. Some of the experiments are me, Gemini, Lupo, a 16 year old girl with long strawberry blonde hair always worn in a high ponytail, sky blue eyes, and fair skin, who has the power to transform into a wolf with white fur and light blue eyes whenever she pleases and Anya, a 15 year old girl with back-length jet black hair always worn in a braid cascading to her back, fair skin and chocolate brown eyes with gold flecks in them, who has the power to turn invisible.
Spectrum is not where I wanna live. I just wanna get out of here, and I'm sure Gemini does too.
And we did. We did get out of Spectrum. We even took it down. How, you ask? You'll just have to read on to find out.
A/N: I hope you enjoyed the prologue. I would really appreciate it if you reviewed! By the way, in the chapters, you will occasionally see words written in bold. Bold means emphasis.
