Cameron took in a deep breath. It had been a long week and now she needed a hot shower to calm her. She undressed and turned on the shower. As the water started steaming she hit play on her multi-CD stereo and got into the water. It felt great. The music from a random CD started up. She recognized the lyrics but purposely pushed the familiar ness of the voice to the back of her head. She sang softly along with it as she washed her hair.
"I can't promise that things won't be broken, but I swear that I will never leave. Please stay forever with me." The tears started again and she sank to the shower floor, sobbing.
"But you did leave! You left me!" She yelled in between sobs at her boyfriend's voice. This had been their favorite song, so he had covered the whole Sleeping with Sirens album and recorded it for her.
"You left me.. Why.." She whimpered, lying on the floor, letting the water pound on her back.
*Flashback*
Cameron grabbed her phone and shot a text to Aaron. It was only 6am and it was sure to wake him up. She grinned evilly. Then she started to clean up her room so she would be ready when Aaron came to pick her up at 8am for their 2 year anniversary.
At 8:30am she checked her phone and there was nothing. She frowned and texted him again. 'Hey, you up yet? Thought we had a great day planned. Call me.' She got no reply and sent him 3 more messages in the next hour. Nothing. She growled. He couldn't stand her up. Cameron hit the call button and waited while the phone rang. It was picked up finally and she started talking before he could say hello.
"Aaron Baker. I know you aren't the most punctual person, but man, an hour and a half? That's a lot, even for you." She laughed, but stopped as soon as she heard the slow, sniffling intake of breath on the other line. It sounded really feminine.
"Mrs. Baker?" Cameron asked hesitantly. The woman choked back a sob.
"Hi, Cameron." She said softly. None of the usual confidence was in her voice.
"What's wrong?" Cameron asked, dreading having to go to the hospital to visit Cameron if he broke his arm again. He could be so reckless sometimes.
"I was going to call you.. You kept texting.. And I couldn't get up the heart to do it.. And John wouldn't either.. Cameron.." She choked on Cameron's name. Dread filled Cameron's stomach.
"What happened?" Cameron listened to the noises on the other line. Gruff men's voice that didn't belong to Aaron, or his father - John, or his brother - Ryan. She listened closely as Mrs. Baker sniffled softly.
"The body will be taken to the morgue after we finish photographing the scene." Said one of the new voices.
"He isn't a body! He is my baby!" Cameron heard Mr. Baker yell. This sent Mrs. Baker into full blown tears. Cameron paled. No.. No.. No.. It couldn't be.
"He's.. He's?" Cameron, choked out, holding back tears.
"Oh honey!" Mrs. Baker sobbed. Cameron slowly hung up the phone, still in shock. She left her room and walked past her mom like a zombie.
"I thought Aaron was picking you up?" The sound of his name brought the tears and she ran out the door. Aaron lived only two miles away, and Cameron's speed got her there in half an hour. She ran in the front door and saw two men wheeling a stretcher covered with a tarp towards her. The yelped in surprise. Mrs. Baker noticed her and turned from the cops that she had been talking to and rushed to Cameron who was now on her knees next to the stretcher. The men wouldn't let her see Aaron. It was too gruesome they said. Mrs. Baker lifted Cameron from the floor and hugged her. Cameron hugged the older woman back, their tears mixing.
Cameron heard Ryan come into the room. Ryan was 19 and only 2 years older than Cameron and Aaron. Cameron and Ryan got along very well and considered each other a friend. Ryan patted Cameron's shoulder with tears in his eyes and looked at his mother. He leaned in and whispered to her. Mrs. Baker shook her heat violently.
"No, she doesn't need to see it." Cameron looked up at them.
"See what?" She asked softly.
"His note.." Ryan offered, quietly. A note.. Cameron had thought it was a suicide, but with no confirmation, she could deny it. Now she couldn't. She nodded.
"I want to see it." She said, wiping her tears. A police officer handed it to her in an evidence bag.
'To my family -
I love you all so much, let me say that first. But, you don't know
what it's like when nothing feels alright, you don't know what it's
like to be like me. I have to do this, because nothing is right here.
everything is wrong and I'm tired of pretending.
I love you guys so much.
To Cameron -
You are going to hate me for this. But don't worry. Please don't cry.
I've left you, to join the black parade. I want you to be the savior
of the broken, the beaten and the down. I'll always be there for you.
where ever I go next, I will not forget you. Carry on. Let my memory carry on.
Happy Anniversary.
I love you.
Aaron'
Cameron handed the bag back to the officer, a knot in her stomach. That was his style. Even in his suicide note he worked song lyrics in. Cameron sat on the floor, letting everything sink in.
*End Flashback*
The music suddenly stopped and the water ceased. Cameron looked up and saw her little sister -Caitlyn- standing there with a big fluffy towel. She offered it to Cameron who took it and got out of the tub. Caitlyn brushed Cameron's hair in silence. After about half an hour of this, Caitlyn spoke.
"When I'm sad, mommy makes me a peanut butter sandwich with a cup of milk and we watch the princess movies. Do you want to?" She suggested, with more maturity in her eyes than a normal 7 year old. Cameron gave her sister a small smile and nodded.
The rest of the afternoon was spent watching princess movies and eating sandwiches with Caitlyn.
So it started off a bit dark (well darker than I usually do), but I think I'm off to a good start. I don't usually write in 3rd person, so tell me what you think.
I've got a lovely story ahead, so don't worry I didn't use all of my excitement in chap one. And I am not embarrassed to admit that I almost cried while writing this.. Yes I'm a cry baby.
Thanks for reading!
