I was sitting on the front step, looking up at the scorned sky. Lighting cracked sending shivers down my spine. All I wanted to do was run from this place, but the sky cannot be escaped. Not unless we stop all the factories. This is not likely to happen considering all the factory owners are rich greedy pigs that spend all their time in luxury while we suffer laboring all day. Footsteps pounded on the course gray sidewalk. New footsteps.
I heard someone yell to me, "Hear that Hope? We have new comers. You should greet them." I got stood up and turned to survey them. It was a boy and a girl about the same age. Their hair was straight, orange and they had pale skin. The girl's eyes were the color of the forest. The boy's eyes were brown but had brightness in them unlike the color itself. There was something about these two that seemed off. They stood high and proud, and their clothes seemed wealthier than most that show up here. I walked up and held out my hand but neither shook it.
"You guys seem new. I could help you find your new home or something. I know the place well," I offered.
"Well, ok. Do you know where D56 is?" The girl said. Her voice had the accent of the rich.
"Yes. That's the home next to mine. Follow me." I start walking and point to the house next to where I was sitting. "There."
"Thank You." They both said. I nodded a "you're welcome."
The boy gave me a strange look and asked, "Your name?"
"Hope," I answered. "Yours?"
"I am Chris and my sister is Crystal." A bell rang announcing that we must all go inside. I motioned for them to enter and went into my own home. It was simple and gray; furnished with a bed, TV, cupboard, washer, clock, and a small basket I use a mailbox. I checked the basket. No new mail. I turned the TV on. Just the president going on his rant again. In my opinion the president was just a face. Not the real person in charge. Just a blind puppet being told what to do. The real question was who was pulling the strings. I sat and thought about it. Then the idea came to me. Not the Consul. Not the Senate. It was the higher class citizens themselves who controlled the government with their riches. Something knocked on the door. Strange. Everyone was should be in their homes.
"Hello? Is someone there?"
"Yes there is. You must open the door now before we knock it down." Clearly the police.
"The door is unlocked. You should be able to let yourselves in." I responded. The door opened revealing the police in their skin tight black suits and black helmets. "Is there something you need from me, officers?"
