To Spell Out the Memories
In loving memory of MJ
The brightest eyes
In the dark of the night
Shined for me that day
The last I ever saw of him
Growing duller, it seemed
As pain – a silent plea for help
Clouded his eyes
I couldn't bear to see it
So I turned away
What money could have done
Make him better or
Eased his passing,
I will never know
That night was the hardest
I missed him
Scratching at my door
The oh-so-happy face at the window
Every time I came home,
Gone for forevermore
Three years old, taken
So soon after love was named
Before a pen could be set
Against the paper
To spell out the memories
All too soon fading
Fading, fade…
