Soul Alone
tiny, winged creature
tries to fly
but no one supports it
and so it sinks
falling from heaven's grace
say goodbye to golden Olympus
people smiling, making merry;
sparkling in the light of love
falling through endless sky
seeing reality for what it is
eyes open to the world around
glittering in gods' grace
fall to the darkest hells
where light loses itself
and love will never win;
darkening in terror's glare
rest there, my soul,
but begin the climb again
for awaiting readiness
only delays its arrival
breathe deeply and fly again
past the endless sky
to Olympus's gilded halls
between heaven and hell.
