Chapter 2: Caught
As the door opens I notice that Taker never went to bed at all. We had been caught; we all know that there is no way to escape now. "What do you guys doing up this early with your backpacks on"? He says puzzlingly. I don't know how to reply to that question. We can't just say "Oh, we're just going to go to California to become cops no big deal, want to come"? We all know that he won't go for it but still there is nothing that we can say to get ourselves out of this one. It's either we stay with him and face the fact that we will never be able to leave the house, or escape.
"What were you guys planning to do now "he says and this instantly snaps all of us out of our trance. "Get out of our way"! Sandra screams. That did not surprise me at that moment because she was as you could say the outspoken person of the group. I remember when we first met she was the first one to introduce herself. Neither I nor Ronald replied when she introduced herself. We were as you could say the shy ones. But even though we were, after a while she started to bring us out of our shells and we learned how to speak up for ourselves but even we knew not to talk to Taker like that because he was very unpredictable and dangerous. The only one that had the guts to talk back to him was Sandra.
Back to the present, Takers face looked very shocked when she exclaimed what she did. "He has a gun in his room" I whisper to Sandra and Ronald. As I said this to them I see a look cross over Takers face, he know what we said. I'm not saying he heard us, but he definitely knew what we had said.
In a swift rush, Taker starts to dash into his room. We all know what we must do now, get the gun before he gets it and shoots us. Taker yelled toward us "if I can't have you, no one will"! I don't know what to do; we won't be able to get the gun before he reaches it. Our only choice is to just run, run or die. So, we ran as fast as we could out the door and into the streets.
I hear the sounds of gunshots from behind, but at this moment I'm not going to turn around. If I do, it will just slow me down. But, the sounds are just getting louder and louder until it sounds like he is right behind me. Sandra is the one in front that is leading the way, as usual. But now I can't even think and I can barely feel my feet.
We have been running for ten minutes now. But, taker is still behind us, he is just not giving up. I think that if we hadn't kept running, we would definitely not be in this world anymore. I wonder what would have happened if I had said yes to my so called guardian. Would I have gone through that door and gone to this so called after life? What would become of Sandra and Ronald? Would they be better off without me? Should I just stop right here instead of running and just give myself up so that the others can escape?
This might be a crazy decision but I stopped, right there in the middle of the street. "What are you doing you idiot"! Sandra screamed. "Go on, I will catch up with you guys later" I said solemnly while showing the thumbs up in their direction.
I don't look back to see their reaction because I'm already charging toward Takers direction.
