Inspired by a chance encounter, watching an old man sipping his coffee, gazing into the horizon. Bam, inspiration. The cover of this poem was taken by me, which was what sparked the muse for this free-written poetry. R&R appreciated. ;)

Coffee break with Solitude
A fair friend amongst the young and the old,
Solitude visits us from time to time, pervading our thoughts
amidst the hustle and bustle of life.
A common friend,
(often mistaken for lonesome desolation)
mostly regarded with sad observation.
The young repels its invitations with constant company;
the insecure, with fear, fleeing from its advances,
delving into vices,
desperate attempts at respite from the very notion of being
alone.
Perhaps -
perhaps then, it is only in old age,
where the silent company of Solitude is welcomed with open arms.
Embraced without question, as only the elderly can do,
they sit as equals, sharing a coffee break,
in silence, and in contemplation.
At ease, old friends.
