A/N: This chapter is dedicated to my best friend Gwen. BTW, Tracy and her brother are vampire-werewolves, so they can Shift into wolves and use vampire abilities.
Anyway, since I forgot to post the A/N last chapter this one will be a bit longer. So this is my first fic. Not sure what a typical werewolf is, but I might use Were for werewolves, and definitely Shift for transition from human to werewolf/vampire.
Tracy hurtled up the stairs three at a time, leaping onto her bed and crying into the wall. That was how her mother found her a few minutes later, body wracked with heart wrenching sobs. She sat down on the bed next to Tracy, cradling her in her lap and whispering soothing words to her daughter.
Johann Wylaw, abandoned in the infirmary, swore. Marching out of the tent, he brought his fist back and punched a nearby tree, werewolf superstrength causing much more damage than he originally meant to happen.
His mind kept replaying his daughter's words.
You're always emphasising on honesty, yet here you are keeping possibly the biggest secret of your life from us! Your own family!
The look on his son's face, the raw pain, broke his heart. He felt like a complete bastard. Sitting down, he put his head in his hands. His wife. His daughter. His son. Sonia, Tracy. Ryan. Their faces flashed in his mind in an endless loop, their expressions seared into his memory.
They were right. He shouldn't have kept it from them. They were his family. They had a right to know. Now, in the face of rejection, his logic seemed flimsy. In trying to protect them, he had only made it worse. He had to make it up to them, somehow.
He Shifted and ran to his house. Once there, he Shifted back, hand shaking as he raised it to knock. Taking a deep breath, he steeled himself and rapped hard on the door. Once. Twice. Three times.
When the door opened, there was his wife. The cold look of pure fury in her eyes stopped him dead in his tracks.
He ran his fingers through his hair, silently praying. Then he looked straight at his wife, meeting her eye to eye.
"I'm sorry. I-" he began, to be cut off by his irate wife.
"YOU HAD BLOODY WELL BETTER BE! NOT TELLING US, LEAVING IT UP TO THE ALPHA HIMSELF TO CALL US TO HIS TENT, YOUR ONLY DAUGHTER IS CRYING IN HER ROOM! YOUR SON, HE THOUGHT HE COULD TRUST YOU! HE'S ONLY 12, FOR PETE'S SAKE! WHEN WERE YOU GOING TO TELL US?" Now she had him up against the wall, fangs longer than he had ever seen.
"I didn't mean to-" he tried again, but this time it was Tracy who interrupted.
"Why, Dad, why? Can't you trust us?" she pleaded with him. Ryan stood at the top of the stairs, glaring at the man he had called father for the whole of his 8 year life.
His wife came in between them. The words that left her mouth then would change his life.
"I spoke with the alpha just now, on the phone. You've had cancer for 3 years. 3 YEARS! You know how much trust means to us all, and yet you've kept this from us. Too bad for you, Alpha Xelan found out when he did a scan of your mind when you became Captain. He's your best friend. You've hidden this from us all. From now on, you're no longer part of this family. I bid you goodbye from the Najlan household. Get out!"
"You can't do this! I've been your husband for 20 years now! I just thought that 8 years old was too young for Ryan to find out!"
"I'm right here. When were you going to tell me? Don't I have the right to know that my father's dying?" Ryan asked, voice breaking with pain on the last word.
"You've ruined their lives. How do you think it feels? Their father is dying and they have to find out from the pack's Alpha. We raised them on trust. Such a great role model you are, Johann. Such a great father. You were my husband for 20 years, you know how much trust means to me. It's too late for apologies now. Get out of this house!" His wife grabbed him by the front of his shirt and dragged him out, leaving him standing on the doorstep.
"Go away!" she yelled, slamming the door in his face.
With no choice, Johann Wylaw turned around, and left the house a broken man.
