Astroturf Hurts

Astroturf hurts
Especially when you've been pushed from behind
Especially when you have a follow-up slide
Shame it doesn't work

Jen yells Get back in the Game
Red on my knee
Sticking to the fake grass so green
That girl is insane

Rachel has the ball again
I come up from behind
Dive in front, a crash, and I go down another time
I wonder if it's a sin

To turn a bit and smile
Wish her happy sailing as she sweeps by
Polishing green shards of plastic with blood that isn't mine
And all the while

I've climbed back up
Accidentally elbowing her in the ribs
Brittany might get there before me; I call dibs
I've got to get it down the field; this is for the cup

Patrice gets it, shoots it in
And the cheers
All I hear
And after we win

My knee stings
Cause the friggin fake green friggin grass hurts
Especially when Rachel, not winning
Gives you a hard kick in the back instead.
