Prologue- 533 AD, Kernyw, Cymry

Pitter-pat-pitter-pat, pitter-pat-pitter-pat. So went the rain, thrashing itself onto the stone walls, the wind a piercing shriek enveloping the expanse of the castle in its unearthly howl and fury. The sky was a churning blanket of swirling gray clouds, while a nearby rumble signified the storm was only beginning to utter its rage. The kingdom was reeking of destruction, darkness, death. Hasty streaks of light split the sky, as the war had split the country, before the Darkness was thrust again upon the landscape.

Peering out the window slit, Gwenhwyfar knew she had brought this upon the kingdom. Her lust for Lancelot had, with help from the bastard Medrod, sent the realm into despair. Medrod had brought their affair into court, to weaken the kingdom, and things had carried themselves from there. Arthur could not bend the law and new system of justice that he had created for his wife, and had to give sentence. Her punishment was to burn at the stake, much to Arthur’s sorrow, but then Lancelot rescued her, killing many of the Knights of the Round Table in the process, some of them unarmed. She was forgiven, he banished from the country, and Sir Gwalchmai son of Lot of Orkney rode after him, seeking revenge on Lancelot, who killed of all his brothers, save Medrod, while rescuing Gwenhwyfar. Sir Gwalchmai and Lancelot fought, and Arthur, dear Arthur, followed them both back to Anglia to try to clear things up between them, his two best knights. They realized their foolishness, but only after receiving a letter on the state of the kingdom during Arthur’s absence.

The kingdom had been taken over by Medrod, who was trained in Dark Magic by his mother Morguase the Sorceress, wife of King Lot of Orkney. Medrod was also the bastard son of Arthur, who happened to be half brother to Morguase. Medrod used his cunning, his good looks, and his sorcery to gain control over the country while the king was away, trapping Gwenhwyfar and using her as bait to lure Arthur back to Britannia to start a war. The two had fought. Arthur had lost.

There was no one to help her. Arthur was dead, Lancelot in Anglia forbidden to return to Cymry, the four sons of Lot were slain, not even in battle, and Merlin… one never knew where Merlin was…
