Face in the Crowd

You say you
don’t care what others think
about you.

That no one except you
influences your actions.

That you alone
make the choices that you do.

But you are wrong.

You care what others think
about you,
your actions,
your decisions.

You want to be
just like them.
Another face in the crowd.
A crowd of friends.

Not different,
and alone.
But the same,
with them.

You are afraid they might
cast you aside if you are not.
Then, leave you alone,
by yourself.

So you do and act
as you think they want you to.

Saying,
this is me.
Accept me for what I am.

But really,
you are saying
accept me for what I have done
to make you like me.

Do you know why?

It is because you are afraid
of being alone.

It is because you are afraid
no one will like you.

It is because you are
just
like
me.

Poetess’ Notes:

Hm... not much to say, except this is pretty much what I think of myself... and that I think a lot of people feel the same way. You know I think this poem probably explains the reason/beginnings behind conformity and trends and whatnot, but that’s just me (or is it?)... Well, thank you for reading, and I’d like you to know that a REVIEW would be GREATLY appreciated. : ) Email me with any questions or whatever at dancing_ ~ Kuri
