So I slip
into her rotting
velvet gown
of
once-elegance,
and put
in place
that careful
makeup mask
she always wore--
you see,
I memorized
each line,
the empty laughs
and
vacant smiles--
so I survive,
again
get by
on the grace
of
social
hand-me-downs.
