This is a short poem about a day that all Americans will forever remember. I still feel like I'm in shock over what happened. I think we all feel shocked, stunned, saddened, and angry. My heart goes out to all of you who have family and friends in NY and DC. Know that you are in the thoughts of every single American.

SEPTEMBER 11, 2001

In the face of terror, all Americans now unite.
What happened Tuesday filled us with anger and fright.
The Statue of Liberty watches the rubble and cries,
As tears cascade from every American's eyes.

We'll all remember where we were when we found out.
Our minds clouded with confusion, sadness, and doubt.
How could someone really kill so many innocent lives?
When will we know how many were able to survive?

Watching the famous towers collapse, I felt a sinking in my heart.
How many families, friends, and loved ones have been torn apart?
A city with so much vibrant energy is now enveloped in a dark haze.
I feel as if I'm in a nightmare and soon I'll awake in a daze.

We'll all spend years asking ourselves how and why,
On September 11, 2001 so many Americans had to die?
Americans will come together out of love and overwhelming sadness.
Asking ourselves what life was like before this terrible madness.
