Chapter Sixteen

In the Shadows a.k.a. the Epilogue

(Last chapter! Cheers! *opens a bottle of sparkling cider and chugs it down* XDXD)

Screams were heard echoing down the empty corridor as the red moon slowly rose. Tashin sighed and slammed the door to his experiment room shut. This was getting rather annoying.

See, every now and then, there will be a shadow that doesn't know how to take orders. The orders are very simple: find person, kill, drink blood, come back. But the shadows tend to be a bit rebellious at times. And a certain all-powerful dark lord didn't like that.

This one was a screamer. When Chaos put it though one little shock, it screamed bloody murder.

Tashin rubbed his temples as he entered the library. His older spirit-brother seemed to be spending a lot of time in here. For Tashin, the library just brought back really disturbing memories.

"Brother, could you hurr—uh…I thought…"

Chaos wasn't torturing the shadow. Instead, he had some book opened up on his lap and a shadow in the corner. The shadow seemed to be fine, only that it would block the coldfire every now and then, ruining the dark lord's light. "What? And what did I say about knocking first?"

Tashin winced. "Moushiwake gozaimasen. Go-jama shimasu."

"Speak…English…" Chaos didn't tolerate much of other languages…even though he understood and spoke them perfectly. Suddenly, the shadow rose again. "Stay down!" the dark lord snarled, fireballing it again.

The shadow screamed and sank back to the ground.

"Yes, Tashin?"

"Uhh…I just wanted to see how you were doing. I mean, the castle being so huge and all…"

Black eyes narrowed. "So what made you think I wasn't doing so well?"

Tashin felt beads of sweat on his forehead. He hated when Chaos glared like that. "It was just that—"

"STAY DOWN!" Fireball. Scream.

"—I'll come back another time…" The younger one of the two nearly ran out of the library, shutting the door behind him.

Chaos sighed and closed his book. He hadn't been able to concentrate anyway, with the irritating shadow and...other things.

"Shit…a god like me shouldn't be feeling these things." His black eyes stared at the coldfire, drinking in every moment of the flames. "Why does she spark an interest anyway? I'm supposed to seal her, damnit."

But he knew why Tracy had struck a string. Chaos just didn't want to admit it.

"Well, congratulations, Queen of Air. Looks like you won." The trademark smirk appeared on his lips. "But only for this round. I'll be watching in the shadows."

And after that, he spoke the his first non-English words for the past two thousand years.

"Tanoshimi ni shite imasu. Itte kimasu."
