Disclaimer: I know my opening stanza is a line from Shakespeare’s play Romeo and Juliet. I give him credit for those first lines. (Or whoever wrote the play, seeing as there is speculation about “his” plays being written by him...) Other than that, this poem is entirely mine to share with you.

That Which We Call a Rose

That which we call a rose
by any other name
would smell as sweet.

As tears would fall,
were it to be called rain.

As breath would cry,
were it to be called breeze.

As grief would bring pain,
were it to be called thorns.

As love would be sweet,
were it to be called a rose.

Poetess’ Notes:

Hmm... this may seem inappropriate at the moment, but constant grief is never a good thing.

I know I haven’t posted for a long while, and if anyone still remembers me, I’m deeply honored. Well, I guess this could be considered my first *gasp* love poem. Though, it’s not written for anyone. Just a poem written about love. NOT that I’m in love. Don’t get any ideas.

I’ve called love a rose, and compared its attributes to elements of roses and nature. If you’ll notice, the description in each stanza will work with both subjects in the verse (both tears and rain fall, etc.). Love and roses sweet, but you have to take the good with the bad. Just a thought. But I DO think Romeo and Juliet took that idea to the extreme... Anyways, if there are any question, concerns, or anything else, email me at dancing_ Thank you for reading, and all the wonderful reviews I‘ve received! I really appreciate them. Now, if you‘ve bothered reading all of this rambling, please spare a moment to review this poem. Thank you! I welcome all types of reviews. ~ Kuri
