And the rockets' red glare,

Hiding the people,

Children,

Friends,

Neighbours.

The bombs bursting in air,

Drowning the sounds –

Screams,

Yells,

Cries,

Prayers.

Gave proof through the night

That we're unprepared,

Unready

And

Mortal.

That our flag was still there.

Showing unity,

Strength,

Power,

Hope.

O say, does that Star-Spangled

Past,

Present,

Future.

Banner yet wave

Over doors,

Schools,

Offices,

In hearts.

O'er the land of the free,

Americans,

One and all.

And the home of the brave.

We will pull through this,

United we stand.
