Visions

I am a cat
eyes wide with fright.
The world lays before me,
black like the night.

As a kitten I romped joyously,
without a single care.
My world a place of peace and love,
of evil it was bare.

The daisies swayed, the robins sang,
The crickets chirped and cher-eed.
In this world of happiness,
I dreamt my kitten-dreams.

Then came the day I chanced to peer
past my world of bliss.
What I saw was pain and death,
flames of hate and spitefulness.

My kitten-world was shattered,
as were my kitten-dreams.
Dropped to break upon the floor,
along with my naivety.

As I look back to my kitten-days,
before I saw the truth,
I wish the world would change back into
the visions of my youth.

Poetess’ Notes:

I wrote this poem a couple years ago, and I found it while I was going through my old schoolwork. It’s pretty much unchanged, but slightly altered to fit the current times. It pretty much speaks for itself, so there’s no internal explanation on it from me.

But here’s a different note:
