Despair

You said goodbye
I promised you I wouldn't cry
In leaving me you broke my heart
Tore it open and took it apart
You closed your eyes and held in your tears
As you walked out the door and down the stairs
I called to you but spoke no name
My empty words I know you heard but you never came
I cried for hours crumpled on the floor
Watching waiting for you to come through the door
You never came
And for a while nothing felt the same
Cold nights I spent thinking of you
Summer day's memories of all we used to do
Finally in dark despair I met the one who wasn't you
No longer do I think our love was true
I know this now like never before
And I'm glad you never walked back through that door
