Author’s Note: This novel uses the Buffy The Vampire Slayer vamps. When this was first written last year, however, I used my vampires. But I go so used to the Buffy The Vampire Slayer vamps that I decided to use them instead. This is not a Buffy The Vampire Slayer fic, although there is a reference to her death in the third chapter. Anyway, enjoy!

Chapter Summary: Liz reflects on her past life in an interior monologue.

Chapter 1:

My Life As I Know It

People are afraid of what’s different. In fact, I know quite a few people who are superstitious, making them fear the new and different even more. But that’s not what I’m here to talk about.

I’m Liz Trigioni. And I’m different. I’m feared by most people. Specifically, my schoolmates.

I have no human friends. They’re all what I am. And I am a vampire. So, my friends are all vampires. Before, however, things were different. I had human friends. More importantly, my father was taking care of me.

I was sired as a baby. My sire, Wrister, had collected some of his blood and made me drink it. Then he drank my blood. Afterwards, he put a spell on me so that I would age until the age of 30, then would cease to do so. I would still get older, and would undergo the vampiric aging process instead of the human one.

My dad saw the whole thing. He was horrified. Had dad not wanted to visit me, he would never have known. But he found out. And he kept me in the house, and he didn’t let me see any other kids. My mom had died in the process of giving birth to me, so she couldn’t stop him. Finally, when I was ten, he sent me off to boarding school.

I was outraged. So angry that, when I got to my new room, I threw my journal against the wall and yelled “I hate you Dad” a lot. I eventually sat back down, but a girl who had heard me, Amanda Carnavon, asked if I was ok. Naturally, I had to lie. Amanda later became one of my friends.

My life was a living Hell. I was starving for blood, but I couldn’t feed off the students. I had no real friends. I had yet to meet my sire. So, I was miserable.

I kept my grades up so that I wouldn’t be expelled. P.E. was my best subject, mainly because of my physical abilities. I’m strong, fast, and I have good reflexes, like most vampires. I have the highest Mile Run time in the whole school. Next to P.E. was science, followed by English, because I love writing depressing stories. Math is next, and then history, which I pay attention in, but I also write. I just happen to be writing this in history.

Since I can’t breathe, I can’t take band. And I don’t like string instruments or singing. So I take computer courses for my elective.

In my social life, I was shunned from group to group. Every time this happened, I would tell myself that they were stupid, speciest freaks.

I did eventually find a group of friends. Ashley, Amanda, Jen, and Samantha were the closet friends I ever had.

Until one fateful day, in my freshman year, when everything went so horribly wrong.
