Chapter 6:
Sinistra & Andrew
The trip into the forest outside the grounds had been an exhausting one, especially since we nearly got ourselves caught on fire. Anyway, Wrister said that, after he got some rest, he would try to figure out what I had been smelling in the forest.
The next few days were pretty boring, so I won’t go into them. But on Sunday, something finally happened. But it didn’t happen in our favor. Things rarely happen in our favor.
On Sundays, most people are at church or out shopping. The only two people who aren’t(aside from us) are the school’s most racist student, Andrew Menmon, and a strange girl called Seena, who always wears red for some odd reason. She used to say it was because she liked the color, but somehow I never believed her before I actually got to know her. Anyway, we were in the student lounge, talking casually about everything that had happened, when we got an unexpected visitor: Andrew.
“Well, well, well, if it isn’t The Vampire Girl,” Andrew said. “Who’re you planning on killing next, Trigioni?”
“Fuck off, Andrew,” I responded.
“I don’t take crap like that from scum like you,” Andrew said. “You need to show me some respect.”
“What’s going on here?” Samuel had come into the room.
“Nothing,” Andrew said, innocently.
“I could’ve sworn I heard arguing.”
Andrew turned to face Samuel. “Wait, I thought you were dead,” He said, eyes narrowing suspiciously.
“No, buried alive.”
“Then
where’s the mark?”
“What?”
“A vampire tried to kill you. Where’s the bite mark? Those never go away, you know.”
“You’ve been doing your homework,” Mark said. I glared at him.
“Uh…” Samuel had no way to cover this time. Most students believed the “buried alive” story, and some of the teachers did, too. But Andrew was a special case. He actually did research about vampires, in order to find the best ways to demean us.
“Hmm…” Andrew said. “I think I know what’s going on here. What if whoever killed you…”-He shoved Samuel into a beam of sunlight coming from the skylight in the lounge-“Actually changed you instead?”
As Samuel hit the sunlight, his skin began to burn. He managed to get out in time, but his hand caught on fire, and he vamped out from the pain. He quickly drew his hand back in the shadows, extinguishing the flames.
Suddenly, the skylight shut of its own accord. Seena was standing in the doorway, hands held out, a flame colored glow disappearing from her hands. She walked into the room and knocked Andrew to the ground.
Samuel lunged to kill Andrew, but Wrister grabbed him by the arms and held him back. “Later, Samuel.”
Andrew had gotten up again. Seena kicked him in the crotch. “Get outta here! Go!” Andrew ran as fast as he could. Seena moved over to Samuel. Wrister let him go, now that Andrew was gone. “All those wounds… they just… bring out the mother in me.” She laid her hands on his arm. The fiery glow appeared again, and the scars on his arm disappeared.
Samuel looked at his arm in amazement, staring at the burns that had just healed. Then, he turned to Seena. “How did you…”
“It was magic. Well, sort of,” Wrister said. “Actually, her own innate powers.”
“Wrister!” Seena said. “I thought I saw you wandering around here! How’ve you been, babes?”
“Fine, Sinistra,” he responded. “I see you’re well. Keeping up those weekly visits, I presume?”
“Like I wanna die?” She said, sarcastically. She laughed.
“What…
Wrister, do you know her?” I asked.
“We’ve met,” he said, simply.
“Specifically, when he was staked in 1853,” Sinistra added.
Wrister clapped a hand to his forehead. “How many times have I told you not to mention that?!”
“Ok, ok, sorry. Eesh.”
“I know you didn’t mean that,” Wrister scolded. “Everybody, this is Sinistra. She’s the ambassador from Hell.”
“Hey.”
“Wrister, I didn’t know you were staked,” I said.
“Yes, I was. Something I hoped you would never know.”
“Why?”
“Think about it.”
“Oh.”
“Ok, I’ve chased off that asshole for ya,” Sinistra said. “If you guys ever need me, don’t hesitate to call.” She left the room, leaving us to our very confused and angered thoughts.
