You and Me

There you are standing quiet and alone

Hiding behind a mask

To them you must seem tough and indifferent

But I know the real you

They don’t know what you go through

That you struggle for life every day

That you live in fear of dying

And may never live to see your next birthday

You rarely smile when others are around

Neither do you shed a single tear

But your true light really shines

When we are alone, you and me

Your façade of gusto comes tumbling down

When I look into your eyes

And every time I hold you close

All your problems become mine

The dam soon breaks and tears will fall

As you and I confide

All our feelings, thoughts and wishes

We never seem to hide

Our time together is not always sad

We laugh and smile and joke

But these times shall only come

When we are together, you and me

We are like undeclared lovers

Our passions radiating like a star

No evil thought or action of hate

Shall ever dull our golden light

But we’ve been pulled far apart

And I can no longer stand by your side

Encouraging you to continue

When your hopes crumble away

I can no longer hold you close

Or whisper in your ear

Telling you "It will be okay, I’ll always be here"

We’ll stay together, you and me

I can only comfort with words from afar

And it pains me greatly to know

That we will never share those happy nights

I realize now I took for granted

I have faith, however, in you and me

I believe that you will make it

As long as we can stay together

Any hurdles will be forever conquered

United, we can do everything

You and me
