Midnight Reprieve

Swallow your pride,

Is it really so hard

To open the gates

That your heart hides behind?

The gauzy moonlight is hidden

Behind layers of inky black,

The glimmering stars

Making the glamours fade

And enabling the truth to come forth

Buck up and choke back your pride,

Let the stubborn walls fall for a time,

You’ll see that it’s better this way,

Easier without navigating a tangled web of lies,

Simple to be true to yourself in the darkness almost pitch

Chin up, stand tall, pride isn’t everything after all.
