Jolene
Chapter one: The Temptress
Roxanne Parsons lived happily in Texas with her boyfriend Arthur Crandall, they owned a small ranch in the south with a couple of horses and cows, nothing too much but it was fine for them. Roxanne was a pretty woman with long, frizzy blonde hair and dazzling blue eyes with a smile that could charm a hog, it was that what attracted Arthur and Arthur himself…well he was OK as men go with short black hair and brown eyes. Arthur wasn’t the best looking guy around, or the worst, but Roxanne loved him for his personality and for his strong-minded opinions. She stood in the bright yard grooming their beautiful black stallion very slowly making sure she brushed every inch of him while Arthur was in the house reading some new magazine for men, she wasn’t sure what it was called. She stepped back to admire the shine of the coat and smiled, pleased. She dusted the dirt off her dungarees and turned to go back inside. “Howdy!” Roxanne jumped and spun round, her eyes wide, to be met with the sight of a young woman watching from over the gate, she giggled, stifling it with her slender fingers. “Sorry, never meant to scare ya!”
“Err…hi!” Roxanne managed to splutter as she regained control of herself “Have we met before?” She scanned her visitor, amazed at the woman’s beauty, long, flaming auburn hair, emerald green eyes, which sparkled like the gem itself, and a voice soft as summer rain softly falling from the heavens into the dust.
“No…I just moved round here, I live just a short walk from this place” She paused looking past Roxanne at the small white washed house and the smart horse. Roxanne nodded noticing for the first time what she was wearing; clingy blue jeans and a tight red checked top which showed off her large cleavage…obviously this woman liked to show off. “My names Roxanne Parsons…who are you?” She asked, smiling tightly to ignore the provocative outfit which made her own sensible clothes seem frumpy.
“Names Jolene Seymour, really only came to introduce myself and I wondered if you had any twine I could borrow, need to sew something” she made a face “although I hate doing it.”
“Sure I do, I’ll go get it…come in and wait if you want” No sooner had she that Jolene jumped over the gate and lent against it
“I’ll wait here” she said and smiled slightly with her heavily made up lips. Roxanne shrugged and went indoors to find the twine which was, when she last saw it, in the lounge with Arthur.
On entering she ignored Arthur who was still sat where she left him. “Who were you talking too?” Arthur asked in the chair not looking up from his book to acknowledge her.
“Oh just some woman who’s moved over here, says she’s not much of a walk away” Roxanne answered rummaging through a box. Arthur looked out the window and froze, enchanted by the woman leaning against the gate “err…I’ll just go and…err…introduce myself, OK Roxy? Roxanne waved a hand in reply, not noticing her boyfriends face or how fast he made his exit.
Jolene looked up and smiled seductively as Arthur came over to her, flicking back a strand of hair and moving her hips slightly. “Hi…I’m Jolene, just moved round here…”
“I’m Arthur Crandall, Roxanne’s boyfriend…kind of anyway” Jolene laughed and moved closer to him twirling her flaming locks.
“Only sort of? I thought you were married”
“No we’re not…are you?”
“No…can’t seem to find the right fella but I’m sure I will…hopefully around here” She jumped back to lean against the gate as Roxanne came out the house with a ball of twine. “Thanks...” Jolene said and glanced at Arthur again “I think I’m going to like it here you know…” Roxanne hadn’t seen how she looked at Arthur and smiled “I’m sure you will and maybe you should come round for dinner one night?”
“Yeah you should!” Arthur jumped in and Jolene began to smile again.
“OK…I will…tomorrow be alright?” She asked and before Roxanne could say another word Arthur had already confirmed that it would be fine, with that Jolene jumped over the gate again and jogged away. Roxanne turned to go back and looked carefully Arthur following Jolene until she was out of sight. He turned with a childish grin; “Nice girl isn’t she? Very pretty” Roxanne scowled
“She’s a nice looking woman but comes across as very cheap, like one of those sluts you find in Nick’s Diner”
“You’re just jealous!” He laughed cruelly and taking hold of the horses’ reins he led it back to the stable leaving Roxanne gaping after him.
The next night Arthur was surprisingly long in the bathroom doing his hair and making himself look better much to Roxanne’s surprise as he never used to spend so long improving himself, it was normally her who took forever. Roxanne was really too busy making dinner than to pay much attention to what Arthur was doing though but it was very unusual for him to take so long, unless of course he had drank too much. As she was pondering this a knock sounded at the door. “I’ll get it!” Arthur sped out the bathroom and answered the door, Jolene stood there, looking more beautiful than before with the sun setting behind her and its rays moving over her sleek body. She gave him a girlish grin; “Hi there” she breathed softly.
“Hi again…” Jolene carefully looked him over but Arthur didn’t notice to much as he was too busy staring at Jolene’s large chest that was pushed into a denim bra top. “Arthur? Are you just going to stand talking at the door all day? Invite her in!” Roxanne ordered as she set the table, Arthur moved out the way and Jolene stepped in slowly, the heels of her sandals echoing round the house as she walked on the wooden flooring. Roxanne smiled slightly quite taken aback at the outfit Jolene wore, she seemed to take a lot of pleasure in showing her skin off but that wasn’t really any of her business but she did think it made her look like a whore and an easy target. “Sit down, please” Roxanne said gesturing stiffly toward the wooden seat at the table; Jolene picked the one where Arthur could sit next to her, which he did so gladly. “So” Roxanne said when they were all sat down “how’d you come to wind up round here?”
“Well I heard there are a lot of nice guys around here and I’m looking one…judging from Arthur I guess they was right for telling me…my friends that is” Roxanne smiled tightly hoping that Jolene wasn’t hinting to Arthur, who was gullible at the best of times. “Yeah, a lot of guys live round these parts” she replied and cut into a piece of bread “there’s a great guy working over in the local bar, his names Andy, good fun.” Jolene pretended to yawn
“A barman is such a boring job, how much fun can one of those be?”
“Better than what I do!” Arthur piped up; Jolene lent her head on her hands and gazed at him
“I’m sure you have a better job” she smiled “what do you do then?” Roxanne intervened
“He’s a builder, not very exciting.”
“Better than a barman, at least you have to have some intelligence” she turned to Arthur “and I bet you get into some really scary situations, don’t you?” Arthur blushed. Roxanne waved a dismissive hand
“Oh please! The only ‘scary’ situation, if you can call it that, he got into was when his ladder fell over when he was repairing the roof and was too much of a wimp to climb down!” Arthur span round
“That’s enough Roxanne!” A shocked silence fell over them all and the rest of the meal was eaten without another word.
After an awkward couple of hours Jolene said she had to go and Arthur led her to the door, closely followed by Roxanne. “You’ll have to come again sometime” Arthur smiled and Jolene raised her eyebrows to agree. Once again Jolene jumped the gate and sidled away up the dirt road, lit only by moonlight, her hips swinging and Roxanne dragged Arthur inside. “You know I don’t know if I like that woman or not” Roxanne said as she closed the door “I felt she wanted to take you away from me.”
“Don’t be silly Roxy” Arthur laughed “why would I like anyone but her…I mean you”
“And all that flirting?” Arthur began to go red again
“I wasn’t flirting; I was being friendly, unlike you! That time of the month again? Jolene thought it was, she said that’s probably why your looking a little on the heavy side…but I said that’s just you.” With that he turned and bounded up the stairs two at a time. Roxanne felt like she had been slapped in the face, she looked at herself, feeling for any lumps. “Fat? I can’t be! I’m a size six damn it!” She stormed up to the bedroom, it was no use arguing anymore, it had already been too long a night.
Hope you like it so far, please don’t flame but hints would be helpful.
