Rise and Fall

Bitter shards of a dream once whole,

Coiling dread in the pit of the stomach,

Writhing and squirming against the chains,

Rusted shields against the outside pain,

In the dead silence of the inky night,

The heavens dark and barren above,

Harsh truths revealed and masks cast aside,

Soul searching begun anew,

Lest the rot of the mind sink into the heart’s core.

Again and again and forever still,

Tongues of fire lap at the barriers of ice,

We fall from grace, fall from hope,

We are forsaken and falling still,

Even as the breath of dawn kisses upon the land,

And the sun blazes across the sky,

Sunken into the bowels of Hell,

Angels of a burning eternity rise,

Wings of midnight and fangs of ivory,

Cast aside these bonds and rise,

The day is born, the beginning of the end:

Ragnarok.
