This is an original work that was inspired by one of my favorite plays, Romeo & Juliet.  I wrote this after being inspired by Baz Luhrman’s interpretation of Shakespeare’s immortal work.

Juliet’s Cry

From the black of night

Comes the sound

Of a lonely love

Juliet stands on an edge

As she cries out across the water

Through the rain and thunder

“Where is my Romeo?!”

Why are you not by my side

on this darkest night?

A night not filled with joy

But soaked with the tears of doves

Why aren’t my love’s lips next to mine?

My Romeo,

So far away

The tears that fill my eyes

Only call out your name

Too far away

To take in my arms forever

May death not take me

Before we are together again

Hear my mournful cry

In a town so far away

From this water’s edge

I’m wishing you could stay
