As days pass by me in quick succession
I look around to see where I am.
I view my past and my present,
But what lays ahead I cannot see.
My past, a dark shadow in time.
With ethereal images haunting me.
Seeming to never hold still in thought
As a memory should do.
My present, like a mottled viper,
Dangerous, maybe, if provoked.
Hidden in the silver sands of time.
It watches every day slip by.
My future, like seafoam mist,
Always there, but fading at a touch.
It runs ahead like the elusive white hind,
With the wind at its heels.
