I wait under cover of darkness,
Bringing with me sadness and disease.
You puny, pathetic mortals live,
Unaware of my true existence.
But I wait under cover of darkness,
Bearing my load of despair.
You ignorant fools toddle on,
Living your ignorant lives.
I emerge during the longest nights
Only after the longest days.
You shudder at my approach,
Shrugging me off as a chill.
But I emerge during the longest nights
To feed off your bitterness and sorrow.
You weep at my mere suggestion,
Calling me regret and depression.
I retreat into the shadows
To await my next victim.
You creatures are so predictable,
Never making me wait long.
But I retreat into the shadows
And await my greatest prize.
You think I only feed on you
But you are greatly mistaken.
The world is my hunting ground.
