Pretend
By: Scratch

On some distant day
Pretend you're somewhere far away
Somewhere where no one can follow
Like your mind's own private hollow.

Once you're there, think of nothing else
Only your thoughts and yourself
Stay in the depths of your mind
And leave everything else behind.

Set yourself down on the grounds of paradise
Let that, for your imagination, suffice
You have never seen such sights around you
Never a land so lush, a sky so blue
Never so many creatures, such beautiful trees
And never such a pleasant breeze.

Not only the Earth has been rearranged
You too have changed.
Your new self, you see
And suddenly, you never felt so free.

You start to run up the grassy hill
And hear the birds call, high and shrill
As you trek, you begin to laugh
Under the sun, a running shadow is cast.

Soon you are almost there
To see the sight so beautiful and rare
You reach the top, see the waterfall flow
So down you jump to the shallow pool below
And scatter the swimming silver minnow

Stand up
Shake off shining water drops, smile, and see
That happiness lies
In being content and free...

Slowly open your eyes
And sadly realize
Sorry, my friend
It was only pretend.
