Dark, Dark City

                  -Shoma Patnaik

This poem is about the other "face" of a city. When it's not Home Sweet Home anymore .What happens to a city when the sun doesn't shine in the sky any longer?

I hope you like it—it's my first poem. Please review it!

The city screams.

Faceless forms lament their

Defeat and also their dear-

Bought victories. Formless voices

Rant in accents incomprehensible;

But satisfied that they

Screamed it out anyway.

A Tortured Soul.

The city cackles.

Blood, tears, sweat and cries --

A vile concoction runs

Through her bloodstream.

She feeds on them.

The flashing neon-lights, gaudy

And sparkly bright only

Show how vastly black

The darkness really is.

A Grim Executioner.

Sometimes I ask myself –

Are you as black

As I paint you?

No, the answer says—

You are grimier still.

But it is here that

I must stay. And

It is here that

My wings were clipped.

Oh Darkness, Must you swallow me once again?
