Prologue

In the treasure room of the Gaian Palace, centered in the vast room that commoner eyes of Gaian never saw, was the greatest treasure the kingdom possessed. It almost glowed, like a contained fire. The way the embroidered gold handle and the clean silver blade caught the light made it look like it shone naturally. Some claimed that it did, even in the darkest of dungeons, it would give its light. It was said that the sword contained the magic of the long-deceased king, the first Faeryn King Cathmor.

King Cathmor; not much was known about the man, except for the fact he was a hero in all the lands of the Gaian world except for the Dark Vantasia. He was nothing more then a lowly Common Elf, son of a theif. However, he was the one who achieved the greatest task of time; freeing the world of darkness and sealing it into the night, creating the Kingdom of Vantasia. With this done, all the power and magic of the world came into him, and he became a Faeryn. The first of his magical kind. With his magic, he ruled the world of the light, and left the darkness to the Vantasia, ruled by Vampires.

When Cathmor died he left his magic in the world, sealed in his greatest treasure; his sword. The same sword he used in every battle, and it never broke, never stained. He sealed his magic in the sword, then commanded his Queen to keep the sword safe. When he died, his wife kept her promise and sealed the sword in the treasure room, commanding that no one ever touch it. If they did, they would be put to death.

To this day no one has touched the great sword. It lies in the treasure room looking as brilliant as the day it was first carved. Only the royal family, descendants of Cathmor himself, are allowed in the room. Even they can't touch it, only gaze at its wonder.

However, it was prophesied by Ancient Mages, men who worked for Cathmor himself, that one day the sword would be touched. And the magic in it would flow to one of Cathmor's blood. For this young one that the magic went to would have to seal the darkness in Vantasia once again, just as Cathmor did.

And thus begins our story of the Sword of Cathmor.
