"The Way Only You Can"

Suppose just one more day went by

when I didn't say just what I thought

about the clouds that overran the sky

and the rain that fell on our picnic.

Would you give me another chance to ask you

for a simple request? Would you let me lay against you,

rest my head on shoulders padded with silent tears?

If I came to you with a problem, would you hold me

the way only you can, show me, not tell me, that you are there.

If I came to you, unable to speak,

would you know what I needed to say without needing to ask.

Suppose my life were spiraling, and I couldn't find

the words to beg for help. Would you be the one to pull

me back. Would you hold me close, wipe tears from my cheeks

and show me it will be all right,

the way only you can.
