Darren stared through the window, into the misty night. He sighed. It had been five years. Five long, terrible, lonesome, unbearable years. Five years, tonight, that Kay had left the wretched Earth while suffering in agonizing pain. Five years since she died.

It was Halloween. Trick-or-treaters raced from house to house, grinning with glee as they took handfuls of candy and dropped them in their bags. Darren clenched his fist and gritted his teeth. Then he relaxed them and sighed again. He lay down on his bed and closed his eyes, memories flooding his head.

The doorbell rang downstairs and Darren opened his eyes and blankly stared at the ceiling. Darren heard voices; Lisa and Zack's voices. Then he heard two children's voices screaming "trick or treat". After a few seconds, the door slammed shut. A slight vibration from the door shook his room, a little, only enough to make an ant jump.

Darren closed his eyes again. He saw a street, a dark and cold solitary street, spooky and frightening in every way with the odd shaped and weird looking houses, the icy bitter wind, the bare, lifeless trees, but he felt no fear at all. Because there was light. A light that shined to his side. He turned to his side and there she was: Kay. Her smiling face: her playful eyes: and her spunky personality. She was dressed up as an enchantress and he, Edward Scissorhands. He remembered that Halloween night when the only thing they cared about was trick-or-treating, and having fun on one of their favorite holidays.

Darren opened his eyes. This time, tears ran slowly down his cheeks. He buried his head in his arms and the tears soaked up his pillow.

All of a sudden, he heard a knock on the door. Darren tiredly sat up and wiped the tears from his face. "Come in." Darren said.

The door gently opened and Lisa peered in. "Darren?" Lisa called.

Darren smiled weakly. "Hey."

Lisa walked over and sat to the left of Darren. Then Zack came in and sat to the right of Darren. "Holly was just here with her two siblings." Zack grinned.

"Oh."

"She wanted to know if you'd like to go to the Halloween party tonight at Jennifer's place tonight." Lisa put her arm on Darren's shoulder.

"Tell her, sorry-no."

"Darren! You have to move on! Let go of Kay for once! You know that's what Kay would have wanted you to do!" Zack lectured.

"I know what Kay wants me to do!" Darren stood up abruptly. "She wants me to move on, let go of her, and be happy! Listen, I try my hardest to do that, I really do! But I can't! Every time I close my eyes, think, and dream, it's always about Kay! I'm sorry, just when I'm with Holly, I don't feel as happy while I was with Kay!" Darren exclaimed.

"I'm sorry if I was harsh, Darren. I just really hate seeing you moping around and seeing you unhappy." Zack apologized.

"Darren, just be with Holly once more, maybe your feelings will change." Lisa urged kindly.

"I guess I'll go then." Then Darren began to smile a little more. "I just really didn't want to get anywhere near Jennifer."

Zack groaned. "Tell me about it. She's been a brat as long as we've known her. She hated your guts and would do anything to get away from you in sixth grade, five years ago and after the "incident", she's been obsessed over your "heroism". And Lisa and I are your accomplices."

"Don't remind me." Darren grimaced.

"Okay, let's go to the party now before you completely lose your okay mood." Lisa motioned.

The three stood up and walked out of the room, down the stairs, out the front door, and on their way to Jennifer's mansion.
