Ch. 9- Starting a Journey
Teluvian felt his heart contract with joy at her words. “No matter what happens, Wyn, I swear I shall protect you.” He promised, clutching at her hands earnestly.
Wyn smiled at his reactions, just relaxing as it all finally came out. "Thank you." She chews on her lip. "But… Favriel said you were the bad guy... I don't understand."
Teluvian dropped her hands. “I thought you were past that. The boy is crazy, nothing more,” he said hurriedly, but an uneasy feeling had replaced the glow of happiness within his chest.
Wyn sighed, nodding to him. "I hope you are right."
Reia, on the other hand, didn't look so happy. "Seth?" She murmured. "What if he is the bad guy?"
Seth frowned slightly, and murmured back to her. “Are you sure you’re not just being your usual paranoid self? I mean, look at them. He obviously loves her very much How can he be bad?”
Reia looked hurt. "So I'm paranoid now, am I? What next? Insane? Delusional? A freak of nature?" She bit down on her lip. "Fine. If that's how you feel, then go on feeling that… but I won't be here!" She frowned, heading for the door.
Seth turned, and gently grasped her forearm. “Reia, wait,” he sighed. “You know I didn’t mean it like that…”
Reia turned to him, still angry. "Yeah. But I'm being serious and you're trying to brush me off. What if I'm right? You want to take that risk? Maybe the guy was crazy... but are you willing to risk someone's life because of that? Maybe we should at least do some investigating…"
Seth was about to reply, but turned slightly and saw that Wyneldralin and Teluvian were both staring at Reia and himself. He shut his mouth with a snap, embarrassed to be caught discussing the other man so rudely. He just wasn’t brought up that way. He tugged at his rumpled shirt, hesitantly, and met Teluvian’s eyes. Yes, there was definitely something there… something secret… but how could Reia have made the jump from secret to sinister?
Reia blushed as she realized the small group was looking on her. Sitting back down and curling up, she decided it'd be best to just stay quiet and not worry about it for the time being.
Teluvian looked from Reia, to Seth, to Wyn. He got a distinctly uneasy feeling. I shouldn’t be here… I’m endangering Wyn’s life… He turned to her and kissed her cheek. “I think I should go,” he said softly.
Wyn bit on her lip. "When will you be back?" Her eyes searched his, so full of longing, yet filled with trust of him.
“When it’s safe.” He promised. He pulled her into a tight embrace, whispering into her ear with soft breaths. “I’ll meet you in your dreams tonight, my love.”
She nodded, nuzzling her nose against his neck, as she held onto him for a few moments, reluctant to let go. "I'll see you later, then..."
Finally, Tel forced himself to remove his arms from around his beloved. Since his secret was out, his saw no reason to bother hiding his exit from the other two. Giving them a nod in farewell, he reached for the thread and pulled, dissolving away from the mortal realm in a non-conventional way.
Having watched Teluvian leave, Wyn felt no need to stay in the room any longer. Moving into the kitchen, she looked back in the direction of the two. "I'll just be making breakfast."
Once the two of them were alone, Seth looked back at Reia. He felt uncomfortable after that whole encounter. “What should we do?” he asked her in a quiet voice.
Reia bit her lip, and looked at him. "We have got to get to the bottom of this whole thing. The more we can find out about this Teluvian person, the better. But we can't stay here... the longer we stay here, the more danger we put ourselves in if we find out what this is all about. So we've got to go find some sort of archive or library."
Seth nodded, but still looked worried. “What about Wyn? You heard what that one creepy woman called Teluvian... ‘The Lord of Chaos’ … I don’t think we can just leave her here, alone.”
Reia frowns to him. "You're right. But the problem is, she believes she's in love with him... he must have done something to her..." She looks to him. "So... we've got to take her forcefully... as she won't want to leave. We have to drug her or something. Until we can snap her to her senses, then we have to think of her as a possible threat."
Seth’s eyebrows shot up. “You mean… kidnap her?” He thought it over for a minute. “I suppose we’ll have to… to keep her safe.” He added.
Reia nodded. "We'll slip it into her food. I've got a bit of some herbs that may do the trick." She moves for her bag, searching though it. "We can't let her get needlessly killed after she's been so kind to us."
Seth just nodded once more, quickly combing his fingers through his hair and retying the leather thong holding it back in a tail. He reached down near the mess of the bed and picked up his shirt, pulling it on and frowning at the wrinkles. Soon, the smells of sizzling bacon were wafting towards them.
Reia moved through her bag, pulling random things out of it, finding herself blushing and stuffing a bra back in as she finds her smaller bag inside, pulling it out. "Yes, lets see if I can remember which ones will work." Glancing through the labels of vials and pouches, she smiles a bit. "Perfect. Teluvian is the Lord of Chaos and Dreams, right? This will knock her out… but it will keep her from getting dreams. Harmless, really, but it'll keep him from getting his grubby paws on her."
“Good idea.” Seth agreed. “Do you want to make the slip, or should I? One of us should try and distract her, too.”
Reia nodded. "You'd better do it. I'm clumsier... so I'll make a good distraction. I'll drop something on the floor, and you can slip it into her food." She pulled the small bag of powder out, handing it towards Seth.
Seth took it carefully, and concealed it in the palm of his hand. Moving into the kitchen, with Reia right behind him, he gave Wyn a bright, innocent smile. “Breakfast ready yet? Smells great.”
Wyn smiled, pulling the skillet off the stove as she served up the food. "Yeah, I'm just finishing up. Have a seat."
Seth threw Reia a pointed look, signaling her to make her move. Reia nodded, just barely, in response. Moving to sit down, she sent a cup crashing to the ground. "Oh! Wyn, I'm so sorry!" She moved to try to pick up the pieces, and Wyn crouched to do so as well.
Quickly, Seth sprinkled the powder over Wyn’s plate. By the time the two girls had stood back up, he was sitting down, all evidence dissolved and gone. The three of them sat down to eat, Seth and Reia occasionally glancing at Wyn out of the corner of their vision. She did seem to be getting sleepier, as she kept yawning and blinking her eyes. She shook her head as she struggled to stay awake. "I don't remember being this... tired..."
Seth gave Reia a conspirator’s wink when Wyn wasn’t looking. After a few minutes, Wyn had completely slumped forward with her head on the table, breathing slowly and even snoring a bit. Seth poked her shoulder to check. She didn’t stir.
Reia grinned. "Perfect!" She stuffed a piece of bacon in her mouth and chewed it as she gathered things up. "We'd better hurry… 'Lover boy' will definitely be wondering why Wyn isn't dreaming."
Seth hurried out to the stable, managing to saddle Storm with a great deal of cursing and manhandling. Finally the horse was ready, and Seth and Reia carefully loaded Wyn’s deeply slumbering body over the horse’s back, while she lolled like a sack of potatoes. To the neighbor’s, Seth told them that Wyn had struck ill after the attack, and they were taking her to a healer. It seemed like a plausible enough story. He didn’t even consider what excuse he would give his own father, when and even if he ever went back.
Reia glanced to him as she read the sky. "To the west… my mother once told me that there used to be a grand library, out there, with books of the gods… there still might be ruins there, but I am not so sure as to their exact location… just that they were west."
Seth shrugged nonchalantly. “West is as good a direction as any. And it has a one in four chance of being right.” He grabbed Storm’s lead and started walking down the road. “I only hope it isn’t too far away… we might run out of powder before we get there. Wyn won’t be too happy with us.”
Reia smirked. "I've got an idea for that, too. We can just tell her that she's been sick." She nodded, glancing to the sky again. "West… that's where we have to go..."
