A/N: These Characters are mine, they just popped into my head and now I'm writing a story about them. Oh, here's a guide to the story:

"…"= Someone talking

'…' = Someone thinking

…= The words that Arcadia is signing.

Now, remember that this is in Japan. They would really be speaking in Japanese in this story but I don't know a ton of Japanese so I won't type this story in Japanese. (I DO use some Japanese words, though. If you don't know what they are, please email me and I'll give you the definitions.) Plus, I'd probably have to translate it anyway! There might be certain times when people will speak English, but I will let you KNOW in the story when that happens.

Anyway, on to the story!

The Silent Girl

Chapter One

Akito Yakimura sat at his desk. He didn't know what he would have to face soon. He thought it would be just a normal day at his normal school, but then she came.

"Class, we have a transfer student. She has come all the way from America to be here, so be kind to her, okay?"

Akito looked up as the class went silent. A very pretty girl walked into the room. She obviously knew Japanese, because she understood perfectly what the teacher was saying. The girl had very pale skin, long black hair, and crisp blue eyes. However, the way she stood and walked proved that she was fully American. Then the teacher introduced her:

"This is Arcadia Rinker. She is very shy so again I wish you to be kind to her."

Arcadia waved to the class, but didn't say a thing.

"Now for your seat, well Arcadia, you may sit behind Yakimura. Welcome." The teacher told Arcadia.

When Arcadia sat down, Akito turned and introduced himself. "Ohayo, my name is Akito Yakimura. I'm glad you're here."

Arcadia smiled and shook his hand. The two became friends that very same day.

***

By lunchtime, Akito had figured out that Arcadia hated talking. He also figured out that Arcadia is hiding something deep in her heart. She locked herself away in there, and he was going to get her out.

Even though she wouldn't communicate with him, Akito was-so far-Arcadia's only friend. So at lunch, she sat with him.

"Arcadia?" he asked. Arcadia turned her head and looked at him. "I was wondering, since you don't seem to like to talk, maybe we could make a sign language. So that I would know what you were saying and you wouldn't have to talk. We can use English letters if you like, I know English." Arcadia smiled brightly and nodded hastily. The look on her face said, "I'd love to."

Akito smiled, and by the end of the day, she talked to him in their own sign language, and Akito was happy because he hoped that one day she would tell him what made her stop talking. Arcadia was happy, because there was a way to communicate with someone without having to talk. Although Arcadia still refused to talk, she had been released from the cage in her heart, the one that she had been trapped in for such a long time.

A/N: I hope you like the story so far. Anyway, PLEASE REVIEW ME! I love reviews, but I rarely get them! So, please review me and tell me what you think! A lot of reviews will get you the next chapter. (I must have at least 3 reviews before the next chapter appears.)
