2 And I chose loneliness
The earth shed its drab and dreary cloak,
and the fragile buds painstakingly
unfurled themselves and saw the world
for the first time.
And I chose loneliness.
The sunlight caressed my hair,
Like a mother’s gentle hand.
And when I moved towards the shadows
The wind begged me to stay.
And I chose loneliness.
The leaves were a luxurious carpet beneath my feet,
And the children’s laughter echoed in the chilly air
playing hide-and-seek in the mist that hung
low and thick.
And I chose loneliness.
Stars filled the velvet sky, little jewels of light.
Lush snowflakes tumbled blindly through the darkness.
The world was cloaked in white innocence once again
Serenity ruled hand in hand with silence.
And I chose loneliness.
I built myself a fortress, a cold little heart that could not love.
I tread my solitary path, remembering
Happiness was offered, so was love.
Yet I shied away, afraid.
And I chose loneliness.
