“Lilies”

Black as the coffin

Bright as the sun

Commencing our mourning

The funeral has begun.

Two different flowers

Surround the small box

A forest of opposites

Crowded with building blocks.

The black and white lilies

Had sung to the moon

While the baby had come

But had come too soon.

The black means birth

While the white means death.

The baby was born,

But had not a breath.

Alright. I was forced to write this one, so I wouldn’t be surprised if it was choppy, sloppy, and horrible. My teacher made us stare at some black lilies for a few minutes then urged us to cough up a poem. Go ahead and flame, I know you want to.
